WOOLWORTHS sell by date

They should remove the sell by dates, makes everyone scared of the food. Freaks me out, if i see something that is sell by the same day i am looking for it i won't buy it.

Actually i pretty much grab from the back of the stack regardless of the dates as the fresh stuff is always behind obviously :D.
That's why they have to employ some guy to move stock around the shelves. :D It's futile ...

This is true of woolies. The exception is certain cut veggies.
Especially carrots. I could swear they die once you get them home. I suspect they are being kept too cold and this is the reason they defrost when you put them in your fridge.

Did you also know they rinse them in preservatives so they keep longer?

Also apparently, when the food is past the sell by date but before the expiry date, they supposedly take the food and give it away for free to underprivileged people.

Haven't seen this happen, but apparently they do this.

Yeah, they do do this......

I've seen them do it before, and I think its great that they do.

The Engen by my house usually sells sandwiches and other stuff 50% off on the day it expires. Fkn awesome :D

Having worked in Woolies' food technology dept, I happen to know that their perishable goods are usually good for a few days after the use-by date. It gets taken off on sell-by date and is then sold on "waste" to the staff at 25% of the sale price. Whatever does not sell on "waste", is then donated to charity - each store manager is responsible for giving it to a charity in his area; at head office, we had a central person who liaised with charities. Any items past use-by date, gets destroyed, irrespective of whether they are still good.
