Bought a Metal II a few weeks ago. Excellent machine for the the price. Battery life is reasonably good. Definitely works with DDR4-3200 memory (2 x 16GB Samsung in mine). The 4800H is a great processor for multi-threaded tasks. The only negative I have come across so far is that the fans are noisy under CPU load.

Thanks for this.

So is the build quality etc also good? Screen?

Yeah will also go 2x 16gb it seems. Anything else you can tell about the machine? Did you go for extended warranty? Any other negative or positives for device?

Are there any differences between these or which should I go for:

These all cost less than the Samsung and also DDR4 3200 16gb sticks.

Build quality is generally good. The bottom panel is fairly thin, which is probably also partly why the fans can be noisy, but on the positive side it is very simple to remove and put back again when you need to add RAM, SSD, etc. Screen quality has been fine so far.

I didn't get extended warranty unfortuantely. Probably worthwhile though, if you have the funds available.

What ram did you use?

I found some 3200MHz ram but not sure which to go for - linked in a post above.

The crucial is dual rank while the rest are single rank.

Yeah, personally I would get whatever is cheapest, shop around.

Stock seems real limited for 16gb 3200MHz sticks and what I’ve found is around R1400 a stick. So will probably go with the Adata as those are R1125 a stick.

So another spanned thrown into the works.

Was browsing online and found someone selling a HP Omen 15:

i5 9300H
32GB Ram
RTX 2060 6GB

Once I add the ram to wootbook then the Omen is around R2k more.

I know it not as powerful or battery won’t last as long but is the omen something I should be looking into rather or do I just give it a pass?

Wootware got back to me saying they don’t know if the wootbook will be discounted more and warranty needs to be purchased within 30 days.

The Omen is a bloody nice laptop, all things considered. Does it still have warranty? That would be the biggest thing IMHO. Laptop parts are ridiculously expensive in SA. I enquired a while back for an ODD cable (literally about 5cm long) and the price was R775, ex VAT. So something like warranty on a laptop where parts aren't 'one size fits all' would be something I would be concerned about if it is something you want to keep for a couple of years.

Yeah just waiting on confirmation but it did come with 3 year on-site warranty. Think it was bought roughly a year ago so should still have 3 years left.

So price wise omen is roughly 2k more - part of me saying it worth it and just go for omen but other part saying will I even use it. Suppose it nice to have and not to need kind of situation.

Anyone have any advice on which I should go for? Don’t want to wait too long and miss out on both.

I'd go for the Wootbook. Cheaper, faster CPU and smaller footprint so should be lighter to carry around if that's your thing

Don’t really travel a lot for work. When I do I have place to charge if needed.

If I add the Extended warranty and 32GB ram I am closer to R15k for the wootbook. The omen I can get for about R1-2k more.

The omen has 2 year warranty left also has 32GB ram and an rtx 2060 with 144hz screen. Mainly will be used connected to external display tho.

Just very undecided. Wether I go for new device or a gaming device.

Going with Wootbook - just makes the most sense.

Thanks for everyone input.

Now to shop around for any deals on 3200MHz ram.
