Word Games

Shope-Mafole is adamant that the constitution must be amended to set out the appointment process for Icasa councillors. “The details [of what this process will look like] will come later,” she says.

seems to be a story a day on this carp....makes me sick to my stomach

not content with the delays that its incompetence, political prostitution and posturing has already caused to effective competition and universal access in SA, they now wish to amend the constitution

should see the ECA commence this decade with a bit of luck

At least someone with a voice is using it, get rid of her!

Ivy will never get sacked or resign, sure shes incompentent as has done many stupid things but she hasnt been accused of corruption and rape so shes safe.

Ivy wanting control of Icasa is consistent with her "Look like me" statement. She wants direct control over who plays in the SA telecoms/broadcasting market, and I guess those players will "look like her"

Brightened up my day :D

SA is in a horrible telecoms crisis whether the DoC continues to deny it or not. Ivy needs step down and someone for the "people" (ya us consumers) needs to step up to the plate and start "fixing" the ICT sector once and for all.

I hope this makes it into all the newspapers and online publications. About time she is held accountable!

I reckon she knows that telecoms big $$ in the future, so she is trying to take control of the whole sector now, before it opens up. Its funny how the president is quiet thru all of this when its becoming quite clear all the ministers are slowly looking out for their own interest/back pocket rather than the people out there that vote for them.

Shope-Mafole needs to go too - her arrogance is only usurped by her ignorance it would seem. Mbeki didnt exercise his mind - he bitch-smacked Ivy back into her place - and rightfully so.

President Mbeki should send Ivy a memo urging her to resign otherwise he will fire her.
It would be a wake up call for the DOC to pull up their socks as the country as Peter7 stated is in a crises. Nothing is happening!

Maybe we can petition Pres Mbeki, and give off a big stink so that he have to give attention to this fact? (but then again, it's wishful thinking...)

FIRE IVY!

FIRE IVY!
Ivy would just ignore him like she did last year when he said he wanted something done.

Who runs Bartertown? Ivy runs Bartertown.

Section 192 states that legislation must establish an independent authority to regulate broadcasting in the public interest. No mention is made of telecoms.
Are the DoC actually that dumb? Ok don't answer that...
I thought ICASA was responsible for both broadcasting and telecoms. In other words the DoC are trying to be overly technical looking for small problems when there's so much more to be done. They would actually be creating problems. According to quote above, this would mean we need separate regulators for broadcasting and telecoms, the latter of which is dependent on DoC. Fire Ivy, shes using up precious oxygen, and if need be I'm game on the idea of petitioning the President.

Agree, fire Ivy, Roy and Lyndall, they are all useless buffoons, our current telecoms dilemma is proof enough.

Wield the axe Thabo, please.

Me too! :D

If only Chuck could visit the DoC with free roundhouse kicks for certain people...
