World's first robot marathon started

A marathon sounds so wussy - it should have been a deathmatch!

They could spend their time trying to find ways of making planet earth better, and instead, they doing this... eish!

Yes, because knowledge gained from this can't be used in prosthetics, the exploration of hazardous environments or a whole list of other possibilities.

Yes, like cooking and cleaning my house as well (:

This is a terrific idea, once the basic building blocks are made the goals can widen. Even those ultimate fighter guys need to learn to walk first!

And people that make hollywood movies? Entertainers of any form actually. What are they doing to make the earth better?

What they are learning here has tremendous potential for enhancing technology. Think about it... making a machine robust enough to run a marathon? All they are doing is adding a little fun in the process. Perhaps it'll entice a few more people to study engineering (badly needed) as opposed to becoming strippers:P

Disclaimer: I have nothing against entertainers / hollywood or strippers. I was just pointing out the apparent uselessness of it when you step back and judge from the outside:P

Uhm... Why?

sigh.....
you just don't get it guys :erm:

I bet when they were trying to go to space...people said "Uhh....why?

Science is good, and we can all thank the geeks of the world for everything we have....because it was all made by Geeks. ;)
This will bring more competition in the field of robotics, much like racing improved land speeds.

I agree with most of what you said, but you should have used sportsman (maybe included under entertainers) rather than strippers. I love sport but it is just entertainment at the end of the day, on the other hand strippers serve a much more important function. For every engineer a varsity creates they should sponsor the training of one stripper/exotic-dancer!
