AS a dad, who has kids, and who may look at getting a HD rig in the new future, the PS3 does not work out for me:
If I want to watch a movie and the kids want to play on the console (or vice versa) - they can't if it's the same device / setup. I would need two separate devices (console / standalone player). If they have their own setup, they're getting the old 74cm SDTV thank you very much, so getting an HD specific PS3 is a waste.
By comparison consider the scenario I'm heading towards:
a. 360, with video marketplace and IPTV in the main lounge - HD movies on demand, no optical drive required
b. Microsoft Home server to store and distribute above mentioned Digital content
c. 360 core in the kids playroom (even 1 per kid at the price) as game stations and media extenders for home server.
We can watch/play what we want, where we want it, when we want it, on 3 devices, all for less than the cost of a single PS3.
(My maths I paid R3300 for my Pro and have the server already)
