Worst Service

So wait, other than being ripped off... you told them you wanted the parts left with you, and you didn't get them?

Obviously not being able to see the edge of the brake discs and such, they look fine. Those brake pads look fine, and those control arms also look fine to me. The chain looks perfectly fine as well, no evidence that i can see of it stretching (which can happen, but very rarely)
I was going to say that chain looks perfectly fine, the only really broken thing is that bearing, but that probably happened when they took it off.

Yeah, I left the bearing out of the list, because it is definitely broken, but if it was broken like that in the vehicle the OP would have some serious issues to deal with...

I don't spot anything missing by the way. Though the only thing I'm not sure of is the thing below the water pump, next to the chain.

Yeah, also think it's a guilty conscience, car is going to Coachmans on Friday, they'll check my suspension, do a 61 point check for me and check whatever work which was done is fine (except for the parts they'd need to take everything apart for).

It looks like some sort of latch/switch/actuator of some kind... its weird. Nothing on the list of 'Work" done to the vehicle matches it.

Probably part of the tensioner mechanism.

Yeah, that it looks like actually, looking at a parts diagram.

If they had to do the chain, why the hell did they need to replace the tensioner as well?

It's usually done as a kit, even when you buy it it comes as a kit. It just make sense to renew everything while at it.

I have a 2011 i10 & my 90k km service was cheaper at the agents. I have about 115k km now. No problems other than brakes. Other than the 30k km I have always used the agents for servicing. I have the 1.25 Auto.

You basically paid almost half of the market value of the car on a service.

Indeed that's normally something you only do with land rovers lol

Yeah, normally I do my research, get multiple quotes etc before I proceed, this time my sanity must've left me.

Feel like one of those ou tannies that get scammed with stupid ****.

Don't be fooled by people telling you small cars are cheap to mantain, the parts prices are horrendous.

Partly true, my wife's car cost us less than half the price of mine to buy. Services are way more expensive at the dealer though. Sent her little up for it's big service last week, R9875. Including cambelt and tensioners. That's a shtload of money for a small car, luckily it was the last service on the service plan, a plan that covered that car from 30k km until now, something she paid R7k for 4 years back. That thing paid itself back multiple times. Motorite, I can actually really recommend them, never had any issues with payment.

That brake discs looks fckd. I've never seen brake discs with such wear marks on it, it looks as if the pads was kaput.

I've seen a few that look like that, and at worst a simple skimming would have made them look good again (but like I said, without being able to see the side and the lip and all those its merely a guess)... the pads on show looked passable as well... but can't really see how much of the pad is left.

Agree
My Toyota Auris is sitting on 235 000km and the engine uses chain.
The chain is not rattling or making any funny noises and what i know is that oil services are very critical to keep the chain well lubricated with fresh oil.
Drove a BMW to over 340 000Km, Engine never opened. Chain lasted and probably still do.

Is it worth skimming discs? Honest question? I might need to replace the discs and pad on the up soon and thought that might be cheaper?

Last time I got a quote it was R300 for front skimming and R300 for back... so way cheaper than replacing the discs...

But it depends on the price of the discs really, and the state they're in.

I've arranged to go pick the parts up tomorrow or so, but these parts might not even be mine, who knows, but should probably be able to glean a bit more info from the actual parts as well as better photos.
