Would an LTE sim work in a Huawei E8231?

I have a Huawei E8231 "Wingle". It's a dongle that can also function as a Wifi modem. I've been using it for ages with an old Telkom 3G sim card. I just bought one of Cell C's special LTE-A deals (15GB pm for R149), but when I put the sim into the "wingle", I can't get internet access. Will this sim not work in this device? It does recognise the sim card - the HUAWEI network login page shows "Cell C 3G" but it says "disconnected" and I can't get it to connect.

If it doesn't have LTE frequency band capability and the sim doesn't support 3g/hsdpa then nope

But don't all sims have "backwards" compatibility? ie, if you have a sim that supports 4G, and you're in an area that only had 3G coverage, then the sim will revert to 3G speeds?

No,the mobile provider can or can not enable the handover to 3g,it's not a requirement

Are Cell-C doing this?

Well, I don't know about these things, but all I can say is that the Wingle recognised that the SIM was Cell C, and it specifically said "Cell C 3G". But I couldn't get it to connect.
