Hi guys,

I have been reading this article on this website: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/internet/39033-internet-piracy-ruling-challenged.html

Reading this thread, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/385739-Most-downloaded-in-a-month?p=7312431#post7312431, I realised there are many heavy downloaders In South Africa. And reading that news article, the companies making the material that gets pirated seem to have gotten "desperate" by sue'ing who ever they can sue for their things being downloaded by heavy users.

So I would like to know, if you are a heavy downloader, and you download ALOT of stuff, mainly, Pirated things from Thepiratebay, rapishare, etc. Wouldn't your ISP see that you have downloaded alot, investigate what you downloaded, see you downloaded pirated stuff and report you to the authorities? Wouldn't you get into serious trouble?

They arn't allowed to investigate without a court order, besides - SSL over nntp :)
 
1. As mentioned, they aren't allowed to snoop around without a court order (but scumbags are trying to change that)

2. Your ISP would really rather not get involved. It takes time and money, and loses them a customer. Possibly more than one if they start getting a reputation for kicking people off.

3. The case you mentioned is in the US. They don't give 2 farts about South Africa. The vast majority of Amuhrkins don't even know where SA is. Saouth Ahfrica? What's that in Mexico or something?

If they dont have our permission or a court order you take them for court for invasion of privacy and can get up to million Rand.
so they have far more to loose than you there one user that make them money

people expect 1st world internet in a 3rd world country, and then bitch when the internet is screwed/exchanges are overloaded because are raping 24/7 coz they wanna get what they feel they entitled to.

Its pathetic that people are expected to pay a premium for sub-standard services, and are then expected not to use it - we pay more than 1st world countries, and get less.

I must be mistaken, but who deemed you the decision maker on what is acceptable internet usage practices in South Africa? And out of interest, what number have you come up with, what should we be allowed to use?

Its pathetic that people deem them selves better than others because they use less of a service... who said your less is any better than my more.

FYI it cannot be rape when you've paid for it. Prostitution maybe but rape? No.

So do you have anything to say about us expected having to pay 1st world prices for 3rd world service?

i was waiting for you.

did I ever say that we dont pay a premium? no I didnt. If you read anything that I've posted previously about Telkom, you should know that I have huge issues with them. But I also have issues with people who are too retarded to realise that regardless of what you or I think about Telkom and the current state of the telecoms industry, we each have a responsibility not to abuse what we have available.

I have no reason to be defensive over my usage just because you think you have a right to dictate internet usage in South Africa.

The only retarded people here are those who think its ok to accept such poor services in South Africa, here's the idea- lets all not use the internet, that way Telkom will have no need to spend money on upgrading infrastructure - absolutely brilliant - did you come up with this by yourself?

Whatever contract the ISP has with others doesn't concern me, our relationship is bound by the contract I have with them.
As long as I pay them in full every month, they are oblidged to provide me with the service I signed up for.
Managing limited resources, overselling etc is their problem, making sure I get what I paid for is mine.
Everything else is irrelevent.

The Knott-Craig is strong with this one..
