Would you keep a R1m under your bed?

Somehow I don't think someone that has a million rand in cash around the house would be driving a Corrola (no offence to Corrola drivers).
Perhaps he has a million *because* he is driving a Corrola.;)

The dodgy part is that the robbers knew where to look....seems unlikely to me.

Nawa, who did not elaborate on why such a large sum of money was being kept in a private house, appealed to the public to use banking institutions.

AH! Get robbed every day with the paperwork to proof it! ;)

Was about to say somethign similar myself:

Not everyone is materialistic look-at-my-fancy-car and/or I'm-better-than-you-because-my-car-in-more-expensive SOBs...

There are a lot of those people who are lining up at the bank, giving back their cars and their houses, because they tried to keep up with the Joneses.

It's easy enough for me to imagine someone having a million and driving a Corolla - believe it or not lots of people have other priorities for the money they save than cars (e.g. rainy day, education for offspring, emigration, leaving it to children, medical emergency (expected or unexpected) savings, buying a house or a better house, wanting to avoid flashing your wealth to deter problems like this) - whatever - what I find hard to imagine is someone keeping a million Rand lying around in cash, that is not smart. That part sounds suspect, and the fact that this was probably purposely targeted.

lilg if someone comes into your house with a gun, tells you open the safe or im putting a bullet in your head

how will this be any safer?

must be a drug lord :), not a good plan to bank 1m without any record of how you got it

the taxman is watching :p

Bank charges must really be bad if this dude decided that his money was better kept at home under the bed!

But it seems a bit suspect to me. Somehow I don't think someone that has a million rand in cash around the house would be driving a Corrola (no offence to Corrola drivers).

Unlike mere millionaires, who may flaunt wealth with flashy rides, some of the world’s top billionaires own cars as utterly average as their middle-class childhoods. At least five of the wealthiest people in the world share traits that make them thrifty when it comes to cars.

Thanks for that, interesting article.

This part re-confirms something for me that I've been wondering: "Generally, we find that most billionaires come from very typical middle-class backgrounds"

This smashes that stupid mantra that people love to chant mindlessly that "the rich get richer while the poor get poorer". Recent stats also showed that over 75% of the 1000 richest people in the UK were self-made millionaires. Meanwhile in China, in less than 2 decades an estimated 250 - 400 million people have been raised from poverty to middle class. So not only do poor people become rich all the time, but the poor are getting richer like never before in history.

It's like hiding your keys and wallet in your shoes when u go for a swim at the beach.

Nobody will ever look for it there.
