can someone explain to me what the hell throttled usage is? I mean if its throtteld then it isn;t really uncapped...unless I can still download but on a slower speed?

384kb/s line uncapped express
A throttled ADSL service whereby once specific thresholds are reached within a set window you are throttled to half your speed. If the next threshold is reached your speed will be halved again. If by the next Window period you have remained below the threshold your speed would be returned to normal

yeah but, like...I dont understand this..:

A 10 day rolling threshold applies to this account - This means when you use more than the threshold amount during a 10 day period, your line speed will be lowered but not disconnected.

This restriction only applies on weekdays from 8am to 8pm.

You will still have the FULL line speed after 8pm on weekdays and the weekend. This means that if you have a 4Mb/s line, you will get 4Mb/s speed, even if you only have a 384Kbps account!

After hour usage still counts to your daytime 10 Day Rolling Threshold. So if you used more than your 10 Day Rolling Threshold then your speed will be throttled during the day time until your usage falls within the 10 Day Rolling Threshold. Refer to the table below for threshold and speed limits.

Its says it doesnt apply for after hour usage...but then in the last paragraph it says after hour usage counts to your 10 day usage threshold...

After hours full speed BUT the total downloaded is counted to your threshold,so abuseable but only afterhours and then you wont get your daily speed? Makes simple sense...

Download 20gig ** 384/4
Download 30gig ** 384/8
Download 40gig ** 384/16

Every rolling thresshold bypassed halves the speed

Correct. So during working hours you will be limited to 192kb/s but after hours your full 384kb/s line speed will be back in action.

It wont go slower than 192kb/s. If you start downloading flat out from day one and always use more than the 10 day rolling window then you'll be limited to 192kb/s every day during working hours but have full line speed after hours.

lol, do you work for a ISP or is there a other reason for your comment?

Since Neotel is not running properly every where I am tempted to get a uncapped express account myself untill the new cable is up and running in middle 2009.

If a person does not mind the slow speed of the express account it works out ok because u can still download a good amount of gigs every month and way more than the threshold suggest's.

Dont think so, it will be throttled to half of your current connect thus :

384 = 192
512 = 256
1024 = 512 and so on and so on

I have an uncapped express at openweb and thoroughly enjoy it, and it works perfectly for me, during the day I am not at home, so its throttled, I can still download (and even throttled on a 384 account is faster then the daily download speed on a saix news server), and it night its at full speed

You can with a 4Mb line, but like you said you will be throttled.

However, when I worked for a company in 2006 they had a 512 uncapped express account running on a 4Mb line and I remember that a lot of downloads were downloading faster than 512kb/s. But naturally due to being throttled the line speed was very erratic above 512kb/s.

But hey, for home use thats ok and if you're running a 4Mb line you might be in for a surprise.....lots of extra gigs
