hmmm, since petrol prices are going up, large V8 car prices will probily drop. Time to buy myself a range rover cheap-cheap![]()

Stuffing myself into a crowded train? No thanks. Did it for a while many years ago and will never do it again. I'll consider public transport when I am guaranteed somewhere to sit during the journey and I can take my bicycle with me, so I don't have to walk when I get to the train's destination.If you live in Cape Town, why not take the train? I take it to work most days, and find it safe and (reasonably) reliable.
You forgot to factor in the half hour extra travel time. The train always takes longer than driving for me. I'd rather spend that time working and earning money.Admittedly some peoples' car calculations will come out a great deal cheaper, but they cannot rival the cost of the train.

Which is why I hate public transport and am not prepared to use it during rush hour. I am quite happy to make my fair contribution to pollution by sitting in my car during rush hour. One key difference with the Paris Metro, besides being able to take a bicycle if I wished, was being able to get quite close to where I was going, plus it was quick and pleasant outside rush hour. I also didn't find the bus service in France to be the execrable mess it is in South Africa. The London Underground is just an unpleasant cesspool.That's going to be a long wait.
