Hobbes and Stiffxiii, stop being sorry little cry babies! Mommy, they won't let me play with them!!!

Mommy: "Have you asked them if you can play with?"

Cry baby: "No mommy, they must just know I want to play with!"

If you want to be part of the WUG, then participate!!! And stop using anon nick names. Honestly, how pathetic are you?

Come ON!!! Don't throw your toys out of the cot. I've been trying to be a voice of reason in this whole mess. Now I'm being insulted and I'm not even on the WUG?

You're not an Admin by any chance?

(I've just come to conclusion that I will not be joining the Wug for the forseeable future. No wonder people get worked up - looks like some of the wuggers need a serious attitude adjustment)

If i get of my ass, I will probably just d0nner someone, and that will be just to stop the stupid, or wait let me Rephrase, the incorrectly implemented QOS.

Do a trial, stop the qos and do tests, test the perceptions.

I was once told, the most difficult thing is to change someone's perception. Change my perception and the rest of the wuggers and you might get what you are looking for.

PS, telling me to get off my ass is the exact arrogance the people are talking about!

yes, the US are the people that actually do something to improve the network
the THEM are the people that do not want to help on highsites/find new highsites/donate/help users/populate wiki/etc.

Fair enough eh? You get back what you put out, simple as that!

Perhaps it's also an option to not allow any more wuggers on the network until more HS's are installed? Depending on where you are obviously!
I'll be getting my hardware over december to connect to the wug but I'm in a huge dip in Randburg and will probably have to do something about it myself too!

No I'm not an admin, just a random dude who put some effort into building a highsite to help about 15 other guys.

Precisely, you are not on the WUG, so you are basing all your opinions on 3 or 4 guys "experience" here. Maybe ask the other 600+ users what they think?

All other jabs and jibes aside, it is worthwhile joining. The amount of internet bandwidth i'm saving is ludicrous. Now, all my cap goes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and, um, pictures! :D

I wish that everyone will just stop taking things PERSONAL. In all my posts i did not take on anyone personally. The fact of the matter is that IF i could create a highsite I would, Bus since I live in a complex it is very difficult.

And no, I did not offer to write/modify the scripts. I simply suggested that it is stopped, and the results be looked at. If this is to much to ask, i'm sorry for asking.

personally i don't like to moan. This forum leaves me with no alternative but to do so. But the fact that the people become personal is unacceptable.

I helped where I could, with my limited knowledge. pointed people to the website, assisted them to plot their locations etc, if that is not enough, then i'm sorry and will refrain from doing so in future.

Alternativly I can continue in the way I introduce people, although i'm a crybaby and will run to mommy.

Thanks for being personal. Really appreciated.

I am in fact basing my opinion on the experiences of at least 6 wuggers I personally know, as well as what i've read in this forum.

So whats wrong with the QOS?

Well, since it was introduced network performance has decreased. All was fine up to the 30th of August.

QoS, according to the manual, is supposed to have enhanced network traffic.
We have seen the downside of this.

I suggest we scrap QoS as it appears to have already broken or crippled the WUG.
Then it can be reintroduced, but isolated on the Network to a specific location. Tested, all the bugs worked out and systamatically deployed in a controlled manner.

During each deployment, we can measure the users perceptions and this might also allow us to identify problems.

I am not suggesting we implement change control, but we have to implement changes that affect everybody in a controlled manner.

IF, this is a community network, lets put it to a vote.

I have taken some time in reading all the posts... I wanted to join the WUG, but reading about all the negative comments from "THEM" and "US" it seems that if you have a problem and voice your opinion you get badmouthed from the “OTHERSIDE”... whoever they are. The negative posts from some of the people are damaging the PTAWUG’s reputation to be a growing network. I will not join the WUG and anybody asking me I will advise not to join due to the fact of “In-house fighting”. I will probably get a bad response from my comment, but this just proves my point!

the irony is that the people that complain are the ones that are NEVER on IRC, NEVER made a wiki post or edit, NEVER donated or NEVER been on a highsite to help with a install or upgrade. Only when things get tough or there are problems on the network they will jump up from nowhere and start to complain.

they must realise that it is up to EVERYONE to help to make PTAWUG great as it is a community network, people who dont want to to that should rather not connect - it's as simple as that.

PTAWUG is not a business, it does not operate like a business where there are employees and clients. EVERY connected user is responsible for the well-being of the network.

You can not expect the people that work on highsites, climb 30m towers, dig holes in rock for tower foundations, spend their weekends on highsites, etc, just to be all smiley faced and happy when someone that has never done anything for the wug comes in and complains a lot.

Protz, IF this is a community network and QoS did not do what it was supposed to do, lets put it up to the community to take a vote.
Not a quick poll that is closed within a day.

We communicate it to all users via various communication mediums and allow everybody sufficient time to vote.

Thats on 1% of the entire WUG. As to what has been said in this forum, well it has maybe gotten out of hand, well at least some of what I said.

It's just extremely frustrating to see that such a small percentage of people out there can have such a large, negative influence. And people being people, love to crucify the hero, it's human nature. Nobody ever says anything about the good that is done by people, because it is simply expected, but let those people make one tiny slip, BAM, you're dead. And that applies to all walks of life, doctors, cops, lawyers, ministers (religious & political), IT technicians, sales people, whoever.

When eveything is working it's cool and no one even knows who to thank for the efficient service, but when it breaks then suddenly all hell breaks loose. Is that fair? And please don't say it's not, because that is what has happened here. When everything was nice and fast, no one complained OR said anything nice, but now that things have slowed down, everyone suddenly has 72c worth of opinions.

The WUG has had problems before, but they were looked at and solved. What everyone must remember is that this is a wireless LAN that is growing massively on an almost daily basis. In something like 2 years, it has grown to over 600 users. So there will be problems, there will times when things are down and yes, there might even be times when an admin might be rude, but remember, nobody said this was perfect, but it is a very exciting project to be a part of. So PLEASE, take the good with the bad, because as much as the clever guys might know, they are still learning as well.

If I've attacked anyone personally, I apologise, but please understand that the WUG is something MANY of us have worked hard on and it's not lekker to come here and read about people who are unhappy etc.

QOS has been implemented on this network for a very long time.

QOS "v2" was implemented in April 2009 and QOS "v1" was implemented LONG before that. We are currently implementing QOS "v3" (which only really went into production in the last 2 weeks) to address all the shortfalls in "v2".

On a network with our amount of traffic, QOS must be applied to keep services like routing, DNS, http, management of highsites, etc up and running. Put it to a vote if you want to but I doubt you have been on the network at a time that QOS has not been in place.

The network has grown too large for the current routing design and this is probably the main reason for bad performance.
