gave up on irc

Well then you might as well just sell your kit.
The WUGgers live on IRC. Thats where all the communication about projects, upgrades, faults, etc happen.
So if you refuse to be on IRC, you might as well give up trying to connect.

everything you have to do has been said in this thread, but it is up to you do take action and do it. just hoping that something will fix itself or that someone will help you when its a good time for you is never gonna happen.

giving up after a few hours on IRC, sjo, if everyone gave up after a few hours of sitting on their chairs PTAWUG would not have existed. Trekking up mountains with wifi equipment, putting up towers, digging foundations for towers, spending days on highsites putting up kit, aligning, troubleshooting, fixing, etc etc.

The your situation does not seem so bad at all.

For how long did you try? Did you PM every admin that was online? did you leave your IRC open in the evening, so that one of them could respond once he/she had gotten home, said hellot wife and kids, spent time with family, helped with dinner, ate dinner, got kids to bed, then maybe had time and "lus" to still go and sit in front of PC? Leaving one PM might sometimes be enough, but often won't be.

I sometimes get PMs and i'm not an admin before anyone gets on a horse, and just ignore them when i get home, because quite honestly I'm not lus for why is this down, or why can't i play or whatever, sometimes. We all have lives and are sometimes just not in the mood to help others, cause we are so irritated that we would just worsen the situation with our bad mood.

I ask again though, for how long did you try? Once, twice? A day, two days? a week? Fine, if you tried many times over a few days, 5+, then maybe you can feel slightly aggrieved, but then remember, admins are also human.

This is a typical South African response though, yes, if you were paying for the service, moan, bitch, whine and even sue, but you aren't paying, so either accept that or get involved. Go google these things, figure it out for yourself, learn and become part of the solution and help others such as yourself. Don't just sit there expecting admins to drop everything just for you. Understand that those guys, never mind their personal lives are hecticily busy currently with the whole IP renumbering project. It si time consuming and can't just be dropped when someone leaves one PM.

The problem of a few WUGGERS is that they expect everyone to fix everything for them and that their problem is the only problem. Their problem must be attended to first. Even for services you pay for, if their are issues, 1st come, 1st served.

On a personal note, if I was an admin and I read some of these comments from users and those users them PM'ed me to help them, well, I might not be all that accomodating. If you have a personal issue with an admin, prove your case. I've said it before in one of these posts, if you have proof of whatever, then make an official complaint on the wiki for instance. make a wiki page, make a link to said page, post link on wiki main page and get feedback. But don't come on a public forum and make wild, unproven statements accusing PTAWUG of this or that. Anyone can come badmouth someone or something here, but I will only believe it when I've seen some evidence. IRC creates logs of your chats and PMs, so prove it. Don't come sound like some poor spoiled little kid who isn't getting all the attention.

typical what ?

i'm not sure what response you expected

a wug is a community network, it will always be a community network, it will always be maintained and run by the users as a hobby, there will never be service agreements, you will seldom find help during the day when everyone is at work.

hehe,

How can helping people for nothing, in our own time be egotistical.

I think the attitude you want to describe and don't understand is proud. I am very proud about PTAWUG. PTAWUG is something that belongs to noone but to everyone.

So I will get offended when people attack our network, and I will take it personally.
It is also the reason why I have always helped everyone.

I'm not in IT, nor do I have networking experience. but I have learned allot. Now I'm using that knowledge to help.

I hate posting in this thread, because it is littered by negative comments, but it is only fair that I do, because other people should know how much dedication and effort and time goes into this network. And it is all done for free. Simply because it is actually fun and exciting to be a part of this community.

Why should I help you?

There is no obligation, no commitment, no fees, nothing.

You should maybe ask why have I been helping people on the network consistently for the past 2 years?

Why have I never refused to help anyone?

Then be proud enough to allow for critiscm and be man enough to take the critiscm and make the wug a better experience.

Any wugger who dares to level any kind of critiscm is flamed to death.

There is where you have it wrong, it is not the admin's job to make a the wug 'a better experience', it is EVERY WUGGER's JOB.

you can also take the critisicm levelled against you to heart and connect on IRC after working hours and get assistance, not just give up and refuse to take the given advice.

if you expect the admins to help you when ever its a good time for you, the same counts for you, you need to understand that they will help when it's a good time for them. If you are not on IRC, how must they respond to your messages.

Any wugger who dares to level any kind of critiscm is flamed to death.
You mean: any wugger who levels critiscm but refuses to anything from his side to solve the problem is flamed to death, but also given advice and instructions on how to proceed and solve the issue.

Just trying to understand this solmed. You went on irc asked someone for help. Someone who volunteers and does it out of charity. They were busy and did not respond(Could be for any reason). Then you get upset that they did not drop everything that they were doing to help you? Then you say that they were being rude :)

When you have put in countless hours into something, physical labour on highsites, hours and hours remote configing highsites, hours of helping users and built something from nothing, you will also be a bit angry when someone attacks it.

you are still not on IRC

one can not always get what one wants or expects
please understand that admins are normal people, with jobs, lives, families and other priorities, PTAWUG is not number 1.

If someone ignores you, do not take it personally, remember, this is not a company where people are paid to listen to complaints or issues and help their clients.

That is also the reason why there is not only one admin to run the whole of PTAWUG, if one does not reply, msg next, etc.
