I have a question that may sound silly to the techies:
Im currently on day 1 of testing nocap, and it looks just great. The setup was easy, both in IE connections and the dl manager I use (getright). Speed seems to be the same as Telkom's daytime speed for home users.
What I want to know is:
Will data received via the proxy count towards the bandwith used? In other words, whatever I download via the proxy, will it be picked up by the infamous tracker?
What Im really getting at, is this: Will it be possible to use the "normal connection" for everything else, but configure only Getright to do large downloads via proxy? If that is the case, nocap is a dream come true: I can use normal ADSL connection for browsing, e-mail etc, but use the "proxied" Getright for large files. Is this possible?
Thanks for your attention!

No, what you describe would be impossible. Every single byte that goes over your ADSL line, in either direction, counts toward the cap.

Thanks Mithrandi. So it seems one has to fully use the available 3 gig, and then move over to the proxy? Still is a bargain, really: I just downloaded an mp3 and got 14k/Sec.
Just another question: When I use the proxy to download via Getright, the download is not resumable. Is there a reason for that, the proxy not caching or whatever? Is there a setting I can change in Getright anyone is aware of to mae downloads resumable, as would be the case with the normal not-proxied dial-up?
Thanks for the trouble!

Have you actually tried resuming the download? GetRight often claims that a download is not resumable until you try and resume it, then all of a sudden it changes its tune.

There are servers that no do support resume on download .....
Getright will indicate this.

There are also times when getright will indicate that a server
does not support downloads when the server actually does.

I do not think the proxy is the cause ....

Okey, thanks guys. I will def make use of nocap. Seems to be a winner right now - and if the service drops, one can discontinue subscription immediately.

Hi Tommy

We where caped every month for the last 3 month, we do not download movies and music, we are just gamers using local game servers. Is that fair?[V]

Silly question, will nocap setup their own file server soon? seeing as so many of these people download's mp3's or movies or whatever, it would be a good idea to maybe offer a local place to download all these files, then instead of having to re-download the same song, you can go look for it on this "file server"?

or if a friend downloads nellie.mp3 and I download nellie.mp3 later from the same website, will it read from the proxy's cache?

/me have no clue :)

Set up their own server with what ??
Warez ? Slight bit of legal issue dont you think..., whats left in the proxy cache is another thing alltogether though I think.

Whilst I think nocap.co.za is a nice service & I can understand why many ppl. choose to go that way I myself am not happy with the specs. When you say dl's can range between 2.5kb/s & 25kb/s then I'm not convinced. I can get 5kb a sec off my capped account at any given time by using free proxies posted on the net and every now and again I get a proxy like the one I have now which gives me 25kb/s.

Yeah you will be able to find a couple of proxies with google.
It just takes a little bit of time to find the right spots. Obviously local proxies aren't as plentiful as say US proxies, but they're around...

I found a couple of sites, but all the proxies are even slower than my capped account :p
Oh well

Hi

There has been some major changes to the system with some great upgrades. Visit www.nocap.co.za
I believe everyone will be happy with the new system.

Hi

Been a bit up and down for the last couple of days. This has prompted me to set up a server in JHB on the SAIX main line. If the servers here go down it will automatically switch over to the JHB branch. I believe this will solve uptime problems. Should be completed during this week.

Thanking You

will nocap work for me? i have the following setup: windows 2000 pc with 2 lan cards, nic1 to switch and nic2 to adsl router. nic2 uses router ip as gateway and telkom dns addies for it's dns, therefore giving the pc access to net. i run proxy+ on this machine to make it accessable to the rest of my pc's in the domain (windows 2000 active directory). works like a charm, but will it work with nocap?

Hi

<Gaming Server>
I would like to request those users who wanted to use the server for gaming to contact me for test accounts. This server will be only for international gaming. It has a much higher ping rate.

Thanking You
