Sorry bout that. Had a Funeral to attend other side of JHB, so i havent been in the office for the last 3 days. Will sort out all mail enquiries on Saturday when i get back to the Office. Left my tech. by the server to at least make sure the service stayed up, but all new sign ups will be handled by the end of the week.

The setup instructions on the page is only for Windows users... what about those of us on Linux? Do i just use the sys1.nocapserver.com hostname? I also tried connection from my windows partition with mirc, i set everything up in Mirc Firewall Options, with Socks selected, and it said it could not make connection to firewall. I'm sure i must be doing something wrong?

Im back in the office today. Got a lot of emails to answer. Will get to everyone during today.
Spoke to my tech in JHB about the Gaming Server, Which just needs to be hooked up now, all installed and ready to go. This should happen later today or tomorrow. So everybody interested in that will get there details soon.
For Linux or Mac users, send a mail explaining you have this system and i will forward the relevant info.

Up till now i have provided a service i believed would be a reasonable alternative to people needing to browse the internet and download files after being capped. What i realized is that there are a lot of power bandwidth users who need more. So I have decided to include a 3rd option which will have a 512k <b>20/1 ratio</b> at R499, this option will be available by the beginning of next week.
I am going to test it on the VPN solution, but if this is a problem i will use the Proxy system.
I am still awaiting word on the gaming server, My tech is in a meeting and should get back to me after 12 today.
I have also included Zebedee for linux on my site for clients who need this option.

Hi

The gaming server has taking some time to become available. My contact in JHB has been very busy with a virus problem for a very large WAN, so this has delayed my server been installed. I was told he would have it connected during this weekend. I do realize i have been stalling and do apologise for this but i had to rely on my contacts free time, as the low ping line is situated by him.
Will let everyone know as soon as its available.

Quick question:
Has anyone been experiancing sub-isdn (more like 56k) performance with nocap recently?

Or should i start looking at my settings etc?

The R99 package is getting pretty full, but as this happens i add more servers, which will be happening very shortly which will improve speeds again, I just have so much happening at one time that it takes time to upgrade everything. But i have noticed a few users are using there bandwidth to upload, then find there download speeds are slow. Make sure your not uploading, as this slows your download speeds. The R99 option should give round 64k(ISDN upload+Download=64k. Look at 19/1/2004 on the notice board for a full explanation.), if not let me know and i can check your settings.
Also make sure you dont have a virus like wormblaster as this chews bandwidth.
Please keep in mind that that the R99 option is not meant for Kazaa (although it does work). If you would like to use more bandwidth intensive apps, then sign up for the R299 option. If your experiencing problems on that option contact me and i will sort it out for you.
I am adding more options, so this includes new servers, which means more bandwidth, which makes everyone more happy.

Please mail me for any problems you may have so i can go through them with you, I am continually looking at ways to improve the service.

Thanks for allowing me to test this service. Posting some results here for others who are interested. Firstly, over 2 nights of testing I have found that the service does work i.t.o. offering lower latencies to international gaming servers. On average I get pings in the 300-350ms range to both Europe and the USA at all hours of the day. However, a big problem for gamers is an inconsistent ping, and packet loss. At the moment the pings are inconsistent, going anywhere from 290ms to 350+ms in the space of a few seconds. I also get intermittent packet loss to all servers. If these two issues could be addressed, I think it would be a perfect solution for most. Also note, that when Telkom switches off their port shaping late at night, then their latencies are much lower than the nocap server (i.e. as low as 180ms to Europe). However, this is unpredictable. The nocap solution runs at the speeds above for 24 x 7.

A Few people have been wanting to use emule. This will be fully supported by the end of next week. Had to look at quite a few configs to find the best solution for this.

Thats great Jason... Can't wait. I am very happy with Nocap and am on the R299 deal and possibly considering the R499 package. The only thing that doesn't run well is emule. So extra work on that one would be verrrrry nice... Keep up the good work.

On the R99 option lately, i have been getting a lot of people saying the download speeds are to slow. Well i have considered changing this package to disable Kazaa and alike as this is absorbing all the bandwidth and affecting browsing speeds adversely. For people who are interested in high bandwidth and big downloads then the R299 and up packages are for you. On these packages i will enable all traffic and seperate the 1080 port to a seperate line as to not affect browsing and download off FTP and HTTP. I would appreciate feed back on this move. Also please keep in mind when i started the R99 package i created it to allow decent browsing speeds after your been capped, i did not intend it for P2P.
PS: I am working on Emule.

Hi Jason.

I think that the R99 option should be for none P2P users and only for surfing. If you want to be a power user then go for the more expensive option. Currently when you reach your 3Gig cap it is so slow that you can't even surf(internationally), so this option should be for that only.

Just a thought, use it don't use it.
