X box 360 or PS2

Do yourself a favour and get the VGA cable and run the Xbox on your pc monitor if you cant afford an HDTV. While some games look decent on an sdtv some are terrible. Dead rising and splinter cell to name two. I cant even begin to describe how much better all games look running at HD resolutions, makes the 360 worth your money.

? Here we go again.

The Xbox 360 never looks terrible on a SDTV. It may look worse than it does on a HDTV but it will always look better than a PS2.

To get the best looking picture on the tv for the PS2, we run it at 50Hegerhertz. Sorry about spelling. Cant run any higher or picture will look cr@p. So what do we run the X Box 360 at?

Hey guys i have been told by another friend that I will need a high deffinition tv for an X Box 360. The tv costs about R6000. He said the X Box will work on the ordinary tv but the graphics looks really k@k. He said I should go for the Black Slim Line PS2. His one works well. Its a lot cheaper. So in about 3 months time I will have a PS2 console

I would say your friend is jealous that you have the opportunity to get a Xbox 360 and he/she doesn't want to be left behind in the dark ages alone, so by convincing you to purchase an outdated console as well, won't be the only one still living in the early ninetee's.

If you purchase a PS2 you will end up later purchasing an Xbox anyways, so that a bigger waist of money.

The PS2 sucks in comparison! The XBox 360 is the future. My friend owns one and he's lucky to have a HD Samsung LCD. Looks great! PS2 to me never had good graphics. Maybe when it was launched way back when. Xbox allows so much more than PS2. And when I think Sony I want to boycot them anyways. Look at what they are doing to us with the PS3. Forcing the "expensive" one on us because "that's what we want". Their game are too expensive anyways.

Generally 60Mhz....

Some games such as Dead or Alive force you to run at 60Mhz...

My 2c: If we'd had this conversation 6months to a year ago (or we were talking PSOne to two) I would have said maybe a ps2, but it just doesn't make sense anymore. The list of good games still to be released on the PS2 is about, well, 1. The list of AAA titles for the 360 for this year alone is enough for me to look at remortgaging my house!

In the old days you may have needed to sweat the Psone for a while while the PS2 driopped in price, I did. But the 360 is available now, and it's not "just a stop gap to the PS3", comparing it to a PS2 is an insult, frankly it outclasses the PS3 in almost every respect. (having to pay for Wifi is the only sore point in my book)

On the SDTV issue, it's bollocks, straight up. Yes 480p is "fuzzier" than 720p, no duh! But the texture quality, lighting, physics, AI are a lot more than "pixel count".

ok guys I think i made a mistake, I will be getting an ordinary X box, not an X box 360. The normal X box is still better than the PS2 right?

Yes and No on it being better than the PS2... but it was never released in this country, so you can't get games for it easily.....

Just save your money and get an xbox360 Saffer... they're worth the money.

There are three possibilities - PAL at 50Hz, i.e. PAL resolution, 576 lines, at the standard PAL frequency which is 50Hz, PAL at 60Hz and NTSC at 60Hz, i.e. NTSC resolution, 480 lines, at the standard NTSC frequency which is 60Hz.

It might be that NTSC looks bad because it has a lower resolution and the PS2 doesn't do anti-aliasing. PAL60 should look as good as standard PAL, but with less flicker unless your TV cannot handle the PAL resolution at 60Hz.

I find games that try to look realistic tend to look worse in NTSC, but even there good developers have normally worked to minimise the extent to which the aliasing is obvious, and they (almost) always do the NTSC version first. Aliasing also becomes less noticeable if your display supports progressive.

On the GameCube many games have a 60Hz option on the PAL versions so you can use PAL resolution with a higher refresh rate. On some games I find there is a noticeable improvement in the fluidity of movement using PAL60.

Basically irrelevant unless you have already played the six years of games previously released. If Sony have any sense they'll slash the price of the PS2 and the games to make money off people on a tight budget. The hardware must be dirt cheap to produce now and they could possibly even farm it out to a third party if they aren't already doing so. If they aren't greedy and stupid they could still be selling PS2 consoles three years from now.

Not really. That would take away sales from the PS3 which is a no no. This is the reason why title development stops abruptly on consoles. The PS2 has outlived its expiry date and should be done away with. 6~7 years is longer than the projected lifespan of any console really... PSX was a perfect 5 years, PS2 had run its course by middle of 2005, but since PS3 was/is late its looking super dated next to the 360.

Unfortunately very few people go back and play old titles on a platform, for may reasons but primarily because it becomes increasingly harder to get older games when they are out of circulation and are no longer being printed.

So while the PS2's library is vast, it's not a major drawing card...

Buy the 360 :D

I will try go to a shop while I am in somerset west next weekend and ask about the X box. my friend says there are games available for the normal X Box so we see

:D Not keen on advice , are you Saffer ? First the ps2 (cause of what your friends said), then the xbox (cause your friend says so, but a piece of hardware never released here.... )

That's right because someone who would buy a cheap PS2 will just buy a R6500 PS3 instead. Car manufacturers should just discontinue the sale of their cheaper models because it is taking away sales from their expensive luxury models.

The original Playstation, including its subsequent incarnation as the PSOne stayed on the market well into the life of the PS2. In fact it was only relatively recently discontinued. Just like the PS2 the Playstation was very outdated by the time its successor appeared, yet it continued to sell for years.

Although numerous popular PS2 titles are still available, there may be some that are hard to come by new, but there are bound to be many available on the secondhand market. And, if Sony wants to continue making money from the PS2, there is nothing stopping them re-releasing any out of print titles in budget packaging. You can still buy PC games that are 10 years old.

noxibox from which school of reasoning are you?
A console is not a car, don't draw irrelevant parallels between these two markets.
Manufacturers of cars have different markets, SUV, Luxury saloon, hatch back, performance hatch etc... Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have 1 market. One target, that plays the same game.

To keep manufacturing the PS2 would cost money. To handle returns on faulty products would cost money... Sony invests in the Playstation name not the version. The best that the Playstation name can bring right now is the PS3 nothing else.

Electronic market is not the car market.
The market at the time of the original PSX and its PSOne update was not the same as it is today. When PSX was out there was Saturn and N64. PSOne days came when the was not really another competitor as the Dreamcast had never taken off. Today Sony is behind where it matters, which is the nextgen console market, and that's where their energies go.

PS2 EE emulation hardware has been removed from PS3 in favor of software emulation. Do you really think they will continue to invest into making hardware for PS2?
