Xbox 360 Kinect, Xbox 360 4GB console pricing announced

Can anyone say HD DVD ? :-)
Well its would be wrong for hardcore gamers to hate on casual gaming, when you look at the Wii and see how much more profitable it is you wonder why Sony and Microsoft haven't gotten here sooner ? Look at it this way if you have a hot girlfriend and now I do too, who wins ? Everyone :-)
IMHO the Kinect should be cheaper, about R999.00 But currently it should be cheaper then getting the Playstation Move set up where you have to get the Eye, Motion Controller, Navigation controller, light gun adapter and charging station ! That's looking very steep ... And I always thought the wii beat the Mega Drive hands down with add on accessories.

Well I wouldn't say it dilutes gaming think about it in a household there's generally more then one user. And not everyone appreciates hardcore mainstream titles. In a game like Kinect sports you mom could make up your momma jokes after whipping you in a game of tennis or a frat boys 10 year old kid brother could make him question his own manhood in something like joyride. Its about offering something on a existing platform to everyone. And with xbox live family subscription you betcha they'll push this...

Anybody remember the Sega cd add on for the megadrive?
Was it nice to own? -Yes
Did you need it? Hell no!

They turned motion technology into a sleazy add on, and we all know how well that does.......

They should develop this standard into their next console rather, because the XBOX 360 was not designed with this in mind.

You guys talk too much. people will buy this, sure the 10-15 posters above might not buy it right now, but "if" they see it becoming mainstream, they will buy it, no matter the price.

PS: I also think this price is insane, i dont own a xbox (<troll>I own a ps3, a far more superior console</troll>).

R1999 is unfortunately too much to entice me to buy it until more games are released and I have a better idea of the system.

But yes, I want to know the price of the "new" 360 Slim 250gb model.... thats more important to me than the Kinect.

Why not just get you a 250GB HDD? They sell for about R800.

Umm, and when you ship 1000 boxes surely it does not cost you R554 per box - isn't bulk shipping cheaper?

Yes, but I put three things under the R554. Import duties are for the value of the shipment. Friend of mine once bought a R800 toy and had to pay in the region of R200 import duties on that.

But for R1999 you getting the ability for two players to play out of the box. Then there's the video chat function. Also you don't need a ton of peripherals.

PS: R1999 is still a steep price.

I doubt it. The mobo mounts would be positioned differently.

I know this... It was more a stupid question posed at Doxide who seems to think I would only want the new Xbox for the bigger HDD...

Microsoft SA has confirmed it will be the same price as the Xbox 360 Elite (R3,399). However, considering there's been a price hike on the new Xbox 360 hardware, it will likely now be R3,699.99.

At least we are not getting ripped off again, i mean 1999 for a laggy, useless gimmick isn't too bad right? Makes the Wii look like a very good option all of a sudden, h3ll even the PS3 is looking good :)

Too bad we can't pirate hardware... this is seriously overpriced, they can go blow themselves.

If this thing was the price of a controller I might look at buying it just for the kids to play with, but at 2 grand, no way.

In any case its way more relaxing to sit back in your comfy chair and just use your fingers to control a game.

Surely given the cost of components, RnD and the other factors like duties, one would see that these consoles are already subsidized a chunk.
You cant by a decent network enabled media player for much less then R1.2k retail and those often use open source software helping to keep the RnD cost down.
So at $150/R1999 with two remotes, I don't think its badly priced
These guys make there money on games and accessories, not the consoles.

Any speculations on how one would transfer saved games from the current memory card or HDD to the new one?
