Xbox 360 Kinect, Xbox 360 4GB console pricing announced

Good pricing for newcomers but not so good pricing for the old fanbois. Still doesn't say when it's going to be available.

I just want to know if this 4GB model comes with the new motherboard "Valhalla"?

If so,then it's worth the money because there will be less chance of a RRoD occurring.

4GB is more than enough space compared to the 512MB memory cards(even they could hold a lot of saved games).

I may actually consider getting this new model of the Xbox 360.

How exactly does $150 translate into R1999.99?

That's R1,754 before VAT. $150 @ R8/USD = R1,200. R554 for shipping charges, import duties and profit in the supply chain on the SA side.

Of course, importers don't actually pay $150, so the profit is larger.

The new Xbox 360 4GB console, which begins shipping from August 20 in Africa

R1999.00 for a fancy Wiimote? No thanks, this will just dilute Gaming like the Wii. How many beat the goalie games will come off this?

HAHAHAHAHAHA @ that price they can stick it........................... you can buy a wii for that so in terms of value its pathetic

thought about it...they drove me to it!!!
Chip my current xbox and buy the complete new one...settled!
will save mega bucks on new games(except COD - online)
thanks microsoft....

I'm quite interested in the bigger picture. For me Kinect is the first big step in the next phase of computing. I can see it quickly morphing into you talking to your house and doing fairly useful things without having to touch a remote or keyboard. Not that the keyboard and mouse must go away, because they mustn't and won't, but this is extremely powerful tech and its going to be placed under millions of tv sets. With broad penetration i think we could see some extremely cool innovation.

The workout stuff is very cool, and i can see the whole personal trainer aspect doing extremely well.

Within the next 10 years and a few iterations of this tech, i could quite easily see a scenario where this morphs into a "holodeck" styled conferencing system. Its already able to do facial recognition and is able to sign you in and out on the fly. They just need to add some google goggles object recognition and this could work like a "3 dimensional microsoft surface" where you can add objects into a virtual conversation or whiteboard. Think some form of augmented reality.

The "touchable" virtual pet stuff could get interesting as the creatures become more intelligent and i'm sure young kids will love it.

Imagine being able to ask your "house" to read you recipe ingredients as you cook.

****. if i want to move around i would do so outside. when i want to sit and play games... i want to SIT and play games. Billion Dollar AI gimmick.... UNLESS... unless the little ****er is learning while the world plays. harvesting behavioural data while you're shooting nazis.

Umm, and when you ship 1000 boxes surely it does not cost you R554 per box - isn't bulk shipping cheaper?

My thoughts exactly!
If they want to enjoy success, that price has already killed it.
I expected it to come free with the console.
I will bet serious cash that this new add-on will fail miserably.
As a huge 360 fan this is just wrong......

It won't work in this country, R2000 is just way way too much. Although, I suspect many american parents will be buying it for the kids this christmas. ...and the comment about it diluting gaming, huh, i never get why people say that. Hardcore and casual gamers are two very different demographics and the xbox will be perfectly capable of catering for both. Its a case of growing the pie into new markets which traditionally are not bothered with gaming.
