Correct! But how many people are going to buy it for ONLY a media center? A lot of people bought the PS2 as a dvd player, only to end up buying games for it afterwards.

At current rates, The PS3 has to sell at least 12 games per unit, just to recoup the subsidy. The average attach rate of the PS2 was just over 9. At last count, which was about a month after the US launch, PS3 attach rate sat at . . . under 1.

Sony might very well bank on BR royalties, but once again, those are a heck of a lot less than game royalties.

It's a very dangerous game Sony's playing, but it's theirs to play as they wish.

Well just after launch the PS3 had an attachment rate of 0.98

No idea, but I'm sure there were quite a few cases where the "dvd player" was a big selling point.

For me it's a no-brainer. I'd rather have a Blueray player for that extra amount than beer.

Saw the ps3 for the first time and had a game.
Must just say i was not impressed at all!Graphically big freaking deal i could not tell the difference between ps3 or xbox 360.Also the ps3 is very ugly looking dont you think?

Really miss the days of n64 vs ps vs sega saturn.
Those were the days.....

Did anybody ever own a sega saturn or n64,and defend it againsed a ps owning friend?
Or buy a dreamcast only to hear a few months later that sega was pulling out of the console race?

yo... i actually think the ps3 is better looking (IT'S FREAKING SHINY, WITH IT'S CROME AND TOUCH SENSITIVE ON/OFF BUTTONA... IT'S PURE GANSTER) but seriously... sony will keep the ps3 going until blu-ray starts to get dated(the x2 speed WILL get dated in 5 years and more speed for games will be needed) but remember... sony have been in the console business for longer then M$... and know how these things work... but if look at it as an outsider to all the companies, Nintendo has the most experience among the three consoles... they got something that appeals to more people and is just more fun... but would i own a wii? HELL NO... face it,different people have different tastes thats why we have choice... if we didn't have choice (even if it were for the better) we would all be unhappy...

but i think sony are good at things when they try and don't expect eg: when the playstation come out they really tried there hardest to make a success same with the ps2 but now with the ps3 they are expecting that there console is better and haven't really tried as hard... a lot of there products have come and gone like that

The real debate here is about price, PS3 is too expensive regardless of the blue-ray player or whatever. You can't sell people something thewy may not have wanted and then charge them for it under the guise of a cheap device that they never did want in the first place.

These two are primarily consoles, and as it stands there's no reason to buy a PS3 save for exclusive titles and it depends how badly you want those titles.
I can't spend R6K+ as a justification of 3 R800 games. The only things I'd want on PS3 are Tekken, GT and no that's about it. (MGS will eventually make it unto the PC like MGS2:Substance)

All the technical mumbo jumbory is crap, end result is you want a console that has the games you want and it must look good. Xbox360 satisfies that at a lower price so its only naturally I go Xbox. If I have to justify the purchase of a console then its not worth it :/
