Xbox one - thoughts?

Queue the Xbox vs PS4 fanbois war. I'll probably just get both :)
Well in terms of gaming grunt they are the same.
I'd be happy with either. Cheapest one wins a lottery ticket to my wallet... unless the Wii U comes down to R1500 for the basic model then it's that & a minor PC upgrade

Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.

MS can kiss my furry ass.

I dunno what to upgrade my PS3 too :(

All this social crap and always online BS I'm thinking I'm better off just getting a PC instead.

...I mean all I want to do on the thing is play games and watch BlueRays. I've got a tablet and cellphone and notebook for all the other interweb ***

Give me a XBOX HALF that can just play games at a reduced price - then we're talking.

The Wii U is all just about dead. I wouldn't even want it for free
Did you say free and "wouldn't want" in the same tech sentence? you mad?
If the Wii U becomes cheap(think wii levels) and brings Zelda, Mario, Metroid etc it would be nice. And I do believe that's what Nintendo is going for, cheap and cheerful with low manufacturing cost. I believe they're milking the early adopters now and will drop the price if Xbox one & PS4 is anywhere near the Wii U price

Btw I don't think the percieved GFX gap between the 1080p the Wii U pushes and whatever the PS4 & Xbox One pushes will be that big.

So basically an over-glorified PC like the PS4? I'll make the intelligent decision and stick to my PC!

They succeeded in making it a matching device in any living room.
Does look a bit more pro/serious than the 360. Big as well, I'm guessing to achieve the "quiet" mentioned i.e. more airflow = less high speed fan.

The part that's quite murky is how they achieve all the TV integration trickery? It does have a HDMI-In port which does give some hope that its not completely tied into US cable TV systems?

EDIT: From architecture panel discussion after the event ...

- Dual WiFi-N radios
- 4K HDMI In & Out
- 3D output
- Hyper-V OS running 3 VMs, one for games, one for apps & one UI/control
- 8 core CPU, 6 operations per core per cycle
- GPU can do 768 operation per cycle
- 3 power states

I can't believe people are complaining about how it looks.
I love the look of the new controller
More processing grunt can only mean good things for gaming. Now I kinda wish gta v was coming out on this at launch.

It feels like they're trying to create an entertainment center for the entire family. Interesting, but if it comes at the expense of hard core gaming in any way, I'm walking away. Metaphorically of course, seeing as how the last console I bought was an 8bit nintendo. :p

Yeah will look Like a VCR and thats the point. I always felt odd when my dad looked at my console.

You do realize that a PC is built for multitasking and a console is built for gaming only and what MS have done is include a number of smaller chips to take over other tasks on the console. I think anandtech had a breakdown. The GPU for both systems will be AMD custom GCN 28 nm processors which are found in the current gen HD 7XXX series. They will be more efficient than the most powerful PC for the next 4/5 years because of their design vs PC. Also take into account the fact that most high end PC's are costly and also make alot of noise. (frankly I dont have 15 k to blow on a highend PC when that cash will buy me 2 new consoles or a console + 40 inchHD TV)

I hope that because its x86 based we gonna see games like dota 2 and hon ported. Maybe even Starcraft 2. I can see Blizzard jumping on the bandwagon. Also the possibility of Keyboard and mouse support thanks to USB 3.0 with Win8 kernal.

They nail you on games and services though, and you don't have to spend nearly 15K on a good gaming pc. I bought mine for about 6k 5 years ago and it still plays everything. My entire games collection has cost me about R800 thanks to steam and other bundle sales and I have more titles than I can ever get through.

Other than looking like a massive VCR I'm not sure how I feel. Cool tricks and gadgets but who actually uses that crap?

Also seems very geared towards the Us market.

I agree it looks like a vhc vcr
