Xbox one - thoughts?

Fanboy much your friends might believe this drivel but people on this forum in general is very technical.

Yeah will look Like a VCR and thats the point. I always felt odd when my dad looked at my console.

You do realize that a PC is built for multitasking and a console is built for gaming only and what MS have done is include a number of smaller chips to take over other tasks on the console. I think anandtech had a breakdown. The GPU for both systems will be AMD custom GCN 28 nm processors which are found in the current gen HD 7XXX series. They will be more efficient than the most powerful PC for the next 4/5 years because of their design vs PC. Also take into account the fact that most high end PC's are costly and also make alot of noise. (frankly I dont have 15 k to blow on a highend PC when that cash will buy me 2 new consoles or a console + 40 inchHD TV)

I hope that because its x86 based we gonna see games like dota 2 and hon ported. Maybe even Starcraft 2. I can see Blizzard jumping on the bandwagon. Also the possibility of Keyboard and mouse support thanks to USB 3.0 with Win8 kernal.

Put down that pipe you are going to choke, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The ps4 and Xbox is currently the same speed as an average gaming pc. It doesn't touch a high en pc in any aspect.

The point I think he's trying to make is that consoles are gaming machines, and games are optimized as such for them. Sure your super PC is faster but whats the point if you're only gonna play games on it? Current gen consoles lasted nearly a decade and are still holding the new games superbly. Show me a PC running 10 year old hardware than can play current games as optimized as on console.

He also said 15k and high end.

I would seriously consider this a replacement for my HTPC, XBMC was (originally) made for this.

I agree it looks like a vhc vcr
Not sure about actual PVR functionality (at least in all markets), they didnt demonstrate any such functionality. It gets very dicey from a content rights perspective with the broadcasters.

But certainly looks designed to take over control of your cable/sat service/decoder. I'm guessing the XBox One will have some kind of IR blaster functionality and MS will create a TV partner API for XBL so that the broadcasters can upload their EPGs and IR codes. Then the One will be used to control your TV watching (via voice & gestures) overlaying its own richer info panels over the TV passthrough signal i.e. decoder HDMI out->One HDMI in-> One HDMI out->TV HDMI in.

Currently my Xbox on my led tv hdmi 2 is always set to "game mode" to eliminate as much input lag as possible, while my dstv/wdtv player goes through hdmi 1 which is not set to "game mode" for a better picture. What does this mean for the Xbox One I wonder, if everything goes though its HDMI out ? manually switching to game mode every time I want to play a game? Or do I have it wrong

HDMI in and out...Does that mean I can plug in my DSTV decoder in the in port and then run the out port to the tv and have the xbox overlay the tv?

Any mention of the native resolution for games? I'm not willing to spend such a huge amount for a 720p console... because then it's no better than the 360

Good question... haven't seen it mentioned, the new kinect is FHD so it's propbably safe to assume it outputs HD or better.

They said 1080p in the conference.
