Xbox One unveiled, next-gen game console from Microsoft

In their defense Sony has done very little to take advantage of the Blue Ray. At best I use it to watch movies in the earlier days when the players were expensive. I actually prefer to play on my xbox than my ps3. Simple reason - the controllers.

I prefer the PS3 because of the reason consoles were created - games

Odd, cos media capability was the main thing that PS3 fanboys used to throw around in those Xbox vs PS3 debates. Howcome it's now suddenly about the games?

I don't know about the fanboys but the PS3 has always had much better games in my experience.

M biggest mistake was buying a 360+Kinect after my PS3 died, haven't touched it in months.

Same here. Although with a library of 50+ games, I'm keen to see how they will handle backwards compatibility.

No backwards compatibility for YOU!

The next-generation Xbox One won't be able to play old Xbox 360 games,
Microsoft has confirmed. Speaking to The Verge, Microsoft Xbox Live vice president Marc Whitten said that the
architecture between the two machines is too
different to allow for backwards compatibility.
"The system is based on a different core
architecture, so back-compat doesn't really
work from that perspective," he said. Microsoft's new Xbox One uses an new x64
processor, as opposed to the PowerPC core of
the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 supported backwards compatibility of over 400 original Xbox titles. Sony is in a similar position with its upcoming PlayStation 4, although the
company has said it hopes to one day make its PlayStation 3 catalogue available
on its next-generation console via cloud streaming technology.

Agreed. Not missed the lack of a bluray drive in my consoles. When I had PS3's, I never used the bluray functionality.

That said, I will probably get XBox One and PS4. Only way to cement your choice. Last round I went through 2 PS3's until I eventually settled on XBox 360. Got 4 in the house now.

I agree with that ... PS3 blu ray sitting unused. I think Blu ray coming more into the fore thanks to 3D movies.

Pros for Xbox One over PS4:
Its a media HUB (Bonus for netflix users, did you know all you got to do is register and than just use the unotelly settings afetr cancelling with them ) - This is huge for my home.
Controller has always felt better (dunno why)
Its Truly x86 based (ie has win 8 kernal) this means more likely people can crack it to run 3rd party peripherals etc.
More likely for more PC based games being ported (heres why: PS4 possible Unix/Linux based system therefore requiring different programming to port titles)
Kinect that finally works the way it was showed off is gonna be awesome.
Xbox LIVE gaming > Sone online gaming (my eprsonal opinion wiht finding local games)
They gonna have more servers and more exclusive partnerships (heres looking at you Rugby and cricket and soccer so can leave DSTV).

Hopes: Full keyboard and mouse support so games like Starcraft 2 and dota 2 can be ported.

1. x86 has nothing to do with windows.
2. Microsoft will never allow mouse and keyboard. They said years ago they will only support controllers.

Some nice features .. But requires a fast internet connection and kinect camera to take full advantage of the system ...
The switching between apps and games via voice command was impressive almost looked staged?
+ 15 New exclusives .. Gonna be a tough choice in the end....

IMHO... It looks ugly :wtf: ... Its Next Gen and not support to blend in with my other components. When I show of my new Xbox One to my friends it should stand out from the rest of my devices:whistle:

No way in hell will MS bother to get rugby broadcasting rights. Or Monochoice giving an inch.
Don't think it works that way, TV signal still comes from the broadcasters decoder (sat or cable) like this ... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...e-thoughts?p=10413092&viewfull=1#post10413092

I hope MC would consider partnering in SA. If MS can convince the content owners (in the US etc.) that the One poses no copyright risk, then don't see why they shouldn't?

So can it read ntfs yet? (or do I remember correctly the 360 eventually got an update for this? )

I'm quite impressed. I can see myself getting this. The new Kinect is particularly awesome.
