Xbox Series X / S

Also had a Switch, XSX and PS5. The switch went a long time ago and recently got rid of the XSX as the console sub got nerfed by MS so the PC sub makes more sense. For the couch I'll use the PS5 and PC gamepass during holidays when I have more time. The steam deck would primarily be to run FL25, replace my miyoo mini and allow me to play switch etc up to PS3 to scratch those itches.

You guys think MS will do another console or just focus on a handheld and try to get gamepass on the PS6?

Well there has been inside scoops on the next console line that also include a portable, after that its anyone's guess.
I suspect next S would probably be a ROG Allay/Steam Dec type of system.

Which honestly would be a bit silly, as we already have PC handhelds that do their games + PS games.

I mean in the next generation. Already have too much to play with the current Series X and PS5. Can't keep up with all the games.

Next gen I may go for one console and one mini pc setup like you mentioned.

Not everyone wants to mess around with drivers and such just to play games, so I can see a market for it esp if they make a proper dock for it a Switch style.

Example: The current Series S would have gotten a lot less backlash if it was a portable + dock.

The current Series S would've definitely been a lot better received if it was that sure, but it probably would've cost a bit more.
I do know that the Series S does still makes sense for people with Full HD TVs.

Well next Switch is not optional, unless I wanna move out to the couch/dog box
 
I am happy with Xbox, I don't care about exclusives, Game Pass got me covered.

If next gen is a native Xbox handheld then I will definitely get that and the console.
 
I actually think the Series S was the right choice and had Sony implemented it they would've been lauded for it. I also believe that the 'pro' consoles from last gen are partially to blame for things not looking so 'next gen' this generation and it will continue into the next gen with the PS5 pro doing a similar thing. Gone are the days of devs draining every last drop of performance from a system to optimise fidelity.

MS had the right ideas but just poor execution and management of studios in general have got them into this position. They have pivoted excellently from a business point of view where they are recording huge increases in revenue year on year so uncle Satiya is a happy man now.

Because indeed, our sources also indicate that Microsoft's internal successor to the Xbox Series X|S platform has been fully greenlit all the way up to CEO Satya Nadella. For now, I understand that Microsoft's next-gen hardware plans include a premium successor to the powerful Xbox Series X, alongside its own Xbox gaming handheld, and several new controller options. Tentatively, these new console devices are slated for 2027.

1-2 years too earlier. We hardly got much out of this generation and it's already been 5 years, and they're still building for previous gen.

Makes no sense to upgrade early if they're still going to be building for this gen, 5 years into the next gen...

Well it is 7 years from the Series release, which was 7 years after the Xbox One release. The Xbox 360 to Xbox One was just over 8 years. Seems to be the rough time period. Sadly this generation has been severely limited, both PS and Xbox haven't really been the same wow bang zoom that older generations were.

Suspect its their answer for the PS5 Pro. Get a matching/slightly better specs and get 1 year head start on next generation.

Personally, I won't go for a Launch model and will probably stick with the X till 2030 or around there. Dont feel the need to upgrade at all. Even the PS5 Pro for me is not worth it.

The PS5 pro isn't an upgrade at all, most people reviewing it were like well I mean it's slightly better, price better not really. But hey.

Those timelines worked because games were being released more frequently. Dev cycles increased exponentially in this gen. We now wait far longer for one new game, which doesn't even amaze you like games on previous gen did. I mean we got entire Mass Effect and Uncharted trilogies in a single gen, and those were (and still are) blockbuster quality.

And the reason we haven't been wow'ed is because they're still wasting their time developing on previous gen (5 years later) instead of giving current gen more focus. Which makes it pointless to upgrade early when the new consoles come around, if they're just going to waste our money and do the same thing.

And to rub salt in it, Sony then gives us a mid-gen upgrade when we haven't even seen the full potential (from a games perspective) of the launch consoles. Nobody cares about some stupid extra fidelity that you need to zoom in to notice, we just want good quality games being released more frequently again...

100% agree we've definitely gone from having games released more frequently to now drips and drabs. I mean even the previous generation there were only 2 Gears games, whereas on the 360 there were 4 and you could see the advancements from 1 to Judgement.
On the Sony side they seem to have gotten stuck in this weird reboot/sequel cycle which just isn't giving us anything new and exciting either, or even to use the hardware properly.
I mean Cyberpunk released in 2020 and the major update was in 2023 which means in the past we'd have another Cyperpunk by now. But nope, seems dev cycles are way to long for console generations now :-(. Especially since the hardware on both consoles, even the pro are basically late 2019 tech.

This was amazing graphics and probably took 1000 of my 20c coins.

And I still play it every few years.
