XCom Enemy Unknown

Arrrggghhh. I've crashed 4 times in the last few hours and now my soldiers are stuck. If I kill a creature, the game crashes and steam throughs a incompelte installation error, wtf!

Sounds like your download may be corrupt.

Game is pretty buggy.

I just lost my one of my guys in a terror mission because an enemy that should have spawned on the roof just spawned on the ground floor right in the middle of my squad (and it had to kill my Support Lieutenant, rather than the Rookie right next to him, curses!).

This isn't to say that the game is bad. I'm having fun, but there are a number of annoying things that they should sort out in a patch.

Lol, I just had one of these sort of missions....
About 7 missions in, I decided to try one of the Difficult abductions, so far in the game I haven't lost anyone yet, and only have 2 rookies left (the rest are Squadies or beter),
In my stupidity, I managed to trigger 4 groups of Aliens in my 2nd turn, over the next 2 turns I managed to kill 7 of the 8 aliens without any casualties.
The last remaining alien killed one of my heavy guys, triggering ALL of my remaining guys to Panic. :D
I mean, really..... a 7:1 ratio constitutes Panic for the Xcom guys?!?!

Does anyone know if something is wrong with Steam? Im trying to download the update but the download rate is intermmitent. It goes up to 100kps, then drops to zero. It's been going up and down like that for the last 2.5 hours.

Is it just me, or is there a setting or something that's not right on steam? This should have downloaded by now. grrr

Are you with WebAfrica? I am and this happened to me too. At least I managed to finish the download in time.

So, who else LOVES squad sight on a sniper? My main man, Col. Zeus, is a psi sniper with an aim of 95(with the scope and other bonuses he rarely get a % lower than 85. With his plasma sniper gun and squad sight, the aliens just die like flies. They might ass well just give up. :D

sigh ... I was alone with the little one all weekend only managed about 1 hour 30 min of play and then having to deal
with the thing getting stuck ... some issue with end of turn but seems to be ok now but im really loving it !!!

I hear the issues with turns getting stuck. Ok this may be a lengthy post, but here goes.
Issues:
1) Turns don't end correctly, forcing you to 'End Task' - this only recently started happening to me. Wish I knew why.
2) Unable to move any of my characters, but they can perform actions - I don't know if it's luck, but I found toggling between my chacters with the 'F' keys fixed that.
3) The Frikken camera on the 'landed UFO' keep adjusting one level up, so I mostly see the roof of the ship, as opposed to my characters.
4) Alien spawned in a wall, but was actually supposed to be on ground level.
5) Pathing. When trying to move a charcter on an elevated level, I'm forced to rotate the camera just so I can move him to the required spot, instead of the level below him.
6) I lost my main assault dude due to a bad move

Bar the actual problems above, I've really enjoyed myself. Doing the research, manufacturing my items, equipping my peeps.... all bring back good memories. I do wish they had allowed you to sell your unused items on the grey market, as once you start progressing, armours/weapons become useless and just clog up my equipping screen.

I've had some good and bad memories already from this playthrough. The good being times where I wish I could've high-fived my soldier for basically saving my squad with firing prowess to the bad of losing Maj. Shamus "Shotgun" Burns and a highly ranked (but dude I didn't like) Support in a terror mission that had 3 groups of 3 Cryssalids and a Cyberdisk appear with my first move... I also lost a rookie (this was my first terror mission - had a squad of 5) but she was a rookie. Only had her coz my main sniper was recovering from the mission that took place the day before.

I could go on, but don't want to ruin the experience for those who aren't that far in.

I'm at a point now though where I realised that you can still semi-manipulate the game's pace, making my A-Team able to tear through all but the worst combo of aliens with relative ease. As such, I'm a little indecisive as to whether I carry on with this game and finish it, or start a new playthrough on a higher difficulty where my options aren't so cut and dry.

In ending, what are your team compositions? Currently I try run with 2 assault, 1 sniper then either 2 heavies and 1 support or vice versa.

thats it i've been exp some of the moving and turn getting stuck issues but it comes and goes???
hope the next patch fixes it ... and isnt another 1.8g

Jus, this irritated me a lot hey. There was one tile I wanted to go, and no matter how I rotated the camera, I could not select it.

I use, 2 snipers, 2 support(or 1 support and a rookie), 1 heavy and 1 assault. The heavy and assault are well armoured and go in front, then come the supports a bit behind them and the squad sight snipers stay way back.

btw has anyone managed to get this special soldier with the classic look ?

Yeah, it's a customisable option under the Hear/Helmet section. It's number 16 I think.... it's after all the helmets.
My main Sniper is sporting that look. Col. Vladmir Klitchko........................ from India...

Lol, my main sniper is also sporting that look..... Lt John "Red Dead" Marsden. :D

I'm sure our guys are just as awesome as each other, so I must remember this lesson for my next playthrough....
Hairstyle = accuracy :D

Last night was not a good night for aliens.... 2 Cargo ships.... lots of dead aliens... Stunned one just to teach it a lesson.

Truth be told....... Lt Marsden is probably the worst sniper in the history of snipers, anything under 80% hit chance is a 50/50 thing.

I invaded my 1st alien base last night....... was a slaughter (for the aliens) and managed to stun the hell out of the commander as well.

Off Topic (Kinda): I manged to get the game "playable" on my laptop, and I must say that I prefer the console controls more over the mouse and keyboard.
It plays much more smoothly and "natural" on the xbox controller.
Personal preference this, of course. :D

Lol, I'll just run with my theory.... Need to give them some personality. Yeah that alien base was great.... well all my peeps came back injured or gravely wounded, but I stunned their commander and managed to sell a lot from it. I think I tackled it a little too early. Completing that challenge was rewarding though....

As for the controls, while the PC controls aren't shocking, the fact that you can see it was just a console port...... upsets me.

I so wanted to take a video last night. Stacked behind one of those forcefield doors with four guys in the squad and that tarantula robot decides to stick his head out. Both snipers pop pop with plasma sniper guns, and my heavy swings out, sticks his heavy plasma gun in it's face and I can just hear the words:

"Feeling lucky punk?"

Proceeds to spray it down and smiles as the resulting explosion burns the excess blood off his Titan armout. Last squadie is staring at the three like, " Screw you guys, share the fun or I'm going home! "

I love this game. Got it yesterday afternoon and played it until 02h00 this morning.
