Xenophobic violence started at Du-Noon CT

Ya, was on 9pm news on 567.

So be careful if using N7 and should avoid that other road that runs through du-noon.
 
My worst fears are being realised, my biggest two concerns are:

The well-being of South Africans working in African countries, I know a quite a few in Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya and Botswana.

Where does the line get drawn? Their are many first/second generation European families here.

The European people can always go to the relevant embassy. Zim people can't really. I'd honestly be more afraid if I wasn't of European/foreign decent...cause the real SA people don't have that route out and might still get attacked under the Shangaan label. Plus most of the Europeans blend in better than you think.;)

Heard our domestic referring to the people getting attacked as Shangaan too. She's worried about their well-being and against the whole violence thing, but I found it weird that the word is so widely used/recognized as a synonym for foreigner.

That's true. If they can get there in time. When the violence broke out in Kenya, consultants I worked with were stuck in their hotel for 2 days before they could get anywhere, that time the target wasn't them though.
 
Was supposed to be ANC sponsered meeting at du-noon this evening, but it didnt happen.

Shops looted.....
 
Well it's flaring up here in KZN too although the police seem to think it's not serious yet :rolleyes:

<12min drive for me. If driving is not possible then I'd have a problem.
 
FFS something drastic has to be done! No FFF excuse for people to behave like savages

I'm in Milnerton, not too far from Jo Slovo, and there are sirens all over the show, helicopters flying around and you can hear the odd gunshot. It's scary when you realise just how close it is!! Shocking how fast it's spreading.
 
And so it continues.
Must be some elusive 3rd force running around handing out "boxes of friends".
 
Dunoon - street lights not on.

This morning around 06:20 I drove past Dunoon, as I do every morning, and a black person ran across the road. I didn't see him and I almost hit him. Why are the lights switched on before the informal settlement, and directly afterwards, but not directly at Dunoon?

Then at 06:30 I heard on the news report that there has been xenophobic violence at Dunoon and that people were there the night before to assist. Why were the lights not switched on?

People have been killed crossing the road at Dunoon because they were not visible to drivers. Dunoon residents, last year, even pick-axed the road in protest of the car accidents. The lights on the roadside went on for a couple of months and then when interest in Dunoon died down they switched the lights off again.

Charles Kadalie has responded to an email sent by John Maytham (Cape Talk) that this problem would be addressed, but after a week nothing has been done.

Let's do whatever we can to make our country safe. Switch on the lights, and stop the violence.
 
It seems like it is starting here too. The local taxi associations have started attacking foreign (Somali) taxi owners. Things aren't as bad as in Gauteng yet.

It seems this whole attacking foreigners thing has been planned with clinical precision throughout the country.
 
Well, we are being led to believe that it is quieter, and yet we see these stories.
My housekeeper just brought some of her stuff here to store - said that people are just looting randomly now too (Diepsloot).
 
The only reason it appears to be quieter is because the police aren't beeing shot at as much.

IMO the main instigators have moved onto other areas of the country. Only time will tell.
