Xiaomi Mi Box / Mi Box S [Android TV OS]

Yes that is the one it is the K400 PLUS TV - all the media buttons work as they should

So my media PC had a HDD failure. 9 years old, so not entirely surprising. Decided to get a Mi Box instead of replacing the failed HDD. Ordered Tuesday morning around 10:00, got an SMS later that afternoon confirming it would be delivered by latest 18:00 on Wednesday and it arrived at the office at 14:00 on Wednesday. Impressed! Wasn't at the office when it arrived unfortunately, so I'll only be tinkering with it later today.

Is there any way to get the "normal/non android TV" version of Showmax to run on either the LIT or MI box?

The "normal/non android TV" has more refinement/search options, ie Kyknet or series language drill down menu items, which is missing from google tv version.

On my phone I can toggle android TV version on/off(from within the app), but not on android tv box - the same toggle switch option is missing.

I sideloaded the "normal" app that is in the normal play store, but it still came up in google tv mode.

Any advice?

Anyone have any problems hooking up their Mi Box via an A/V receiver? I had to connect it directly to the TV so long. If I connect to one of my A/V receiver's inputs its almost as if it "sees" something, but it isn't 100%. If I put the Mi Box to sleep mode then it will show "no signal" on my TV, and when I wake it up the "no signal" disappears, but the screen remains black.

I am not sure but maybe it is because your AV receiver is not a passive throughput but active, and either the Mibox or the AV receiver is not 100% 4k compatible?

I suspect that could be the problem but to solve it you will need some expert advice - I assume it will soon be coming. Passive means the AV receiver does not process the HDMI signal in any way it is just galvanically switched from input to output.

After looking at that and until someone that is an expert replies it may be worth trying to change the display/resolution settings on your Mibox - I am not currently with mine but I remember there are some things that you can change...

A few extra things here that you can try

i.e. connect the TV differently to the AV receiver - try a different input to the TV...

Is there no way to close background apps? On the Telkom Lit we are able to keep the home button in to find and close background apps, but with the MiBox there is no way...

You have to do it manually, go into settings >>apps , and select the app and force close.

Also, there is something very problematic with the Xaomi MiBox WiFi ... It's very poor. It can be right next to the router and still buffer... And if I connect my smart TV or Telkom lit box to stream something while the Mibox is streaming, it literally freezes all connectivity... Switch the Mibox off and problem solved. Try stream with it on while other devices are streaming and once again everything stops on all other devices... It's like it's interfering with the signal. Did some searches online and I found alot of the very same complaints from people. I'm soo confused how it can be doing that.

Have you tried changing the channel on your router?

Yes I did that last night. Downloaded WiFi analyzer and saw which channel would be best. Also did a factory reset on the Mibox. Gonna monitor it today and see if it has made any difference

Also try using the 5ghz wifi band if your router is capable of it.I believe the mibox can connect to that.
