The default YouTube app can kiss my ass, I use Smart YouTube TV, it lets you set everything down to the codec you prefer.

If I recall you can do it in the YouTube settings via the browser.

According to Ghisler, the Total Commander dev, Google has blocked copying to external USB devices from Android TV. You can try copying via SMB.

Copy content to and from a usb device. Just for use when the net is down and I need to fend for myself. Otherwise streaming works fine.
