Factory reset with complete data wipe 1st, If it is software related my bet is it will have something to do with a pre-installed app. <-- Main reason I flashed mine with a rom I got from MIUI.

Battling to go back to a previous version

No need to, all you needed to do was Google, they are rolling out miui_MI5Global_V8.2.1.0.NAAMIEB OTA.

So you should be all good.

Did you do a factory reset and Wipe?

LOL, from link above

Somewhere I found that the problem is in camera app. If you record a video in landscape mode, it seems that lower mic gets turned off. That's why person on the other side can't hear you or they hear a very distant voice when calling. I didn't found any permanent solution, but if you record a video in portrait mode, the mic gets turned on again, and when making a call person on the other side will hear you loud and clear.

Hmmm very odd bug, esp seeing that its not on all phones but has been found in Mi4, Redmi note 2 and Mi5. And from what I see there is different solutions that very in results.

See http://en.miui.com/thread-236693-1-1.html

Just read the same now

Weird that different people have different solutions but not all of them works for the same issue

Ill try them 1 by 1 and hope 1 works

Worst is it was fine and just all of sudden started. 1st off going to try dev rom you have on

Tried already
Will do landscape and then portrait
Maybe something gets triggered

Otherwise there's always Lineage OS :D
Flashed my Note3 over the weekend and I'm really impressed. Batterylife improved quite considerably and Privacy Guard + NetGuard works a treat.

Assuming would need to be rooted?

Not familiar with this. Can you please post or pm me a link please

Don't do that!!!

I am gonna end up buying a second phone just so I can try out other ROMs. With all my 2 Step authenticators its pain so I keep the itch away.

1st you going to have to apply for dev access on your MIUI account so you can unlock the bootloader. That takes about a week.

To be honest, I thought the same - wanted to get a Mi5 and only then flash the Note3 - but then I reminded myself that I thought the same thing when I flashed my old Samsung to CM. :D Made sure my old phone was set to be a backup in case of total disaster - then went ahead..
Took me days of reading everything out there, looking for just the right ROM and proper instructions. Now, finding a ROM without problems and with clear & concise instructions was harder than expected, and I even went recklessly ahead to try something knowing full well it probably won't work.

Bricked my phone. Fixed it and learned a great deal in the process - real stoked now that everything is settled and working smoothly.

@Crawler: The guide I found in the end actually didn't need an unlocked bootloader / root or anything, just follow steps carefully and all sorted.
That said, I probably wouldn't recommend just going for it unless you have:
#1 Time, like a weekend ahead of you so you're not panicked to get it ready by the next day.
#2 Not lazy to read forums.
#3 Patience.

Might be able to help if you do want to go this route if you don't get any joy elsewhere.
