Bootloader is still locked yeah :D , Im using ZXC TWRP for recovery and flashed SuperSU (Systemless Root) and Xposed framework.
Phone is perfectly fine.I used Alka Twrp to make a backup of all partitions first before i made any modifications.I then flashed a new rom with ZXC TWRP and continued.

Just a side note,some versions of TWRP load up in chinese on first boot.
Dont panic,just check a few youtube vids on how to change language on Twrp 3.0 and up

Alternatively when it wants you to swipe,click the button (on screen) on the right side.That should be language options.
If you already loaded chinese and presented with 2 columns of options, its the second option in column 2 row 3,then the globe icon

Remember,you can always flash the phone from EDL mode should anything go wrong.
On XDA,theres a file you can use to boot the phone into EDL from fastboot mode if it ever gets bricked.
As long as you can get into fastboot,it should be fine - Fastboot to EDL XDA Guide

Awesome - any chance you have links to those 3? As well as ROM image you added twrp to?

You can download the full ROM here. Make sure you get the Developer ROM for "Redmi Note 3 Special Edition". Then you just copy the ROM to your phone's storage, and using the Updater app you can navigate to the zip you downloaded and flash that. Easy peasy

Is the stable ROM also on marshmallow?

This might be a silly question but what's the difference between the developer ROM and the stable ROM?

Stable is not on Marshmallow. Stable is MIUI 7 and Developer is MIUI 8. Check YouTube for the differences between the two MIUI versions.

Further Developer also gets weekly OTA updates. It's supposed to be like a beta but it's very solid

Got the Note 3 Pro Kenzo at R2600 all incl from Ali but haven't seen the Note 4 that cheap though..
Specs are very similar and didn't seem worth the extra $40 which I last saw it sold at. 100% happy with the Kenzo, with about 1gb free of 3gb at all times, never have to do any RAM management, cleanups or anything.

Only issue I have occasionally is that upon waking the phone with fingerprint, the screen would wake up and immediately go off again. It appears to be totally random. Pressing the power button first then the finger-scan works fine, or rebooting the phone would also sort it out for a longer time.

Though some MIUI 7 versions isn't on marshmallow, the Note 3 Special edition is. Go settings, scroll down, tap about and you'll see Android version is 6.01.
MIUI version numbering scheme has nothing to do with Android version. There's even phones on MIUI 8, thats still on KitKat

EDIT: I've just checked, the other two Redmi note 3's is on MIUI 8, but Android 5.1

Cool, apologies then. It's funny how they have MIUI 7 on both Marshmallow and Lollipop, dependent on the device.

MIUI is so customised that the Android version in the back doesn't really matter to the end user, in my opinion.

I just checked and the stock firmware that shipped is MIUI 7 with Android marshmallow.

I want this to be the one phone that I don't tinker with but the urge is strong....

This happens to me if my other hand is like over the sensor or hovering over the screen or something. Like my other hand is interfering. No issue if there is nothing over the screen/sensor.

So I just had this problem.

What did the owners do? Did IC do an exchange?

Basically what happened was, I connected the phone to wifi for the first time, it pushed through an update. after I did the update, the phone shows the MI logo foe 2 seconds then restarts. and continues
 
Cam someone with the phone please try this. with the phone off, hold down the volume up key and power button and let me know what happens please.

Mine just shows a picture of a phone connected to the charger but it should have given me an option to reset the phone

You're doing it correct. It does that because the bootloader is locked, so you can't reset there.

My suggestion is to enter Fast Download mode (Google the key combination, I forgot) and then flash the ROM from your pc using the MiFlash tool

Got locked out of my phone so had to reset as well. If you signed in with a Google account on your phone you can remotely reset it through Android device manager on your pc.
Not sure it will work for you though because you need a data or WiFi connection active to do so.

Did that yesterday. At that point I plugged in the charger and it started normally.
