Hopefully the Note 4 will suit my usage patterns better than the Note 2 that I have

With the extra 50mAh plus the SoC with 14nm construction you should get the same if not better battery.

Then I would not recommend a Note 4 at all. Maybe a Ulefone ARMOR 4G or an HOMTOM HT20. Yes they not the fastest but at least they will last more than a couple of months.

I am always wary of the lesser-known brands, not because of the brand itself not being known but more because of the support and community development of ROMs and patches.

Xiaomi has a good following over on XDA whereas the other brands not so much
