Xiaomi Note 3 now R1899

Mine has been on 'Payment Confirmed' since I placed the order and used PayPal to transfer the funds

Yes - but the actual device was a pre-order. The timer only ended last night for pre-orders. (I think there we're about 15 - so it'll probably ship shortly)

Fair enough. I think once it ships the excitement will set in :)

Just got an email it will only be shipped in a week.
I hope they can stick to their claims of shipping within x amount of days.

Otherwise I might cancel and use another vendor if they can ship earlier.

I don't really mind the wait but I'd like to cut out delays as much as possible, understandably :)

In my experience it took less time than they said. Hold up was at customs but still on track for delivery a week ahead of schedule.

Have you seen the rand? Phone is already R300 more expensive.

Thanks Bradley. Hoping for the same good news. I haven't gotten the mail yet.

Thank you Zoomer...thankfully I bought when I did but this will probably be my last phone for a long time, the way the Rand is going :(

Hi guys

Please advise

I'm looking at buying either the redmi 4a or put in abit extra on the note 3

Is this a good move or should i go the import route?

If so which phone exactly do you guys suggest? Please provide links and details of shipping costs and method

Thanks in advance

I still haven't gotten a mail yet. Still processing. Guess we will see what happens on Monday or Tuesday.

Also didn't receive a mail so decided to contact and ask.
They wouldn't give me an exact ship date, basically just saying that they will start shipping when the promotion ends and they receive stock from their supplier.

I decided to go the import route simply because I can get more phone for my money. Ordered the Redmi Note 4 on Friday and should take about 2 weeks to arrive. Cost just under R2500 including shipping and insurance.

Cool, thanks for posting here.

I got a mail to say the goods in another warehouse have been shipped (screen protector and covers), but no news on the phone itself.

Guess I'll see next week :)

Got the same mail about the cover and screen protector being shipped first.

Perhaps we should amend the thread title and make the 1st post about steps/advice about importing as the thread has evolved into a pure Xiaomi redmi note 3/4 thread now...

We need an official Xiaomi thread. There is enough interest and talk about it on the forum to warrant one. Maybe not a thread for each model but since MIUI is standard across all their devices, perhaps a centralised Xiaomi thread would be a good idea with posts and links for importing, distribution, customs, etc.

Just a thought :)

Last time I got a phone on contract was back in 2009. Went Pre-paid and never looked back, imported a Nexus 1 and fell in love with the freedom of selecting the device I want, instead of picking/settle from a shortlist of crappy wannabes. Problem is that in SA they price phones so even when you buy they can coax you into contracts, so importing is a better option.

Currently sporting a Xioami Mi5 (3/64gig) that was only $240 US, here the same phone cost about R7000 so you tell me if its worth it to import. Best part I basicly paid for it from selling my old Moto G

That brings me to the other part of importing, you join the real exclusive club, unlike em fruit crowd.

Erm what about us that got Redmi 4's or Mi5's :p

Mi5 guys must go join the S8 crowd.

Jokes. Perhaps wabbit is right make an official Xiaomi thread. But on the Miui thing... I spent a total of 24hrs on it before I went AOSP...
