If I were you I would go for the device with the most efficient battery life seeing as you will be using it mostly untethered.

No use in getting a super powerful device that's a battery hof if all you are going to be doing is video calling and using it as a remote.

My 2c :)

So what's that? The 4A then? Apologies I'm clueless on these devices, been an apple ages now.

^battery hog* is what I meant to say.

The 4a is pretty light on juice but the Note series have excellent batteries as well. Do bear in mind they have more powerful processors and higher res screens so that would also have an effect on how many hours you get to squeeze out of it.

Go to www.gsmarena.com and compare the various models to see their various shortcomings and so on. It will also give you an idea of the endurance rating that you may get

Friend's Note 4X arrived with film covers for our phones. Only problem, some moron did not read the page properly when he ordered (Read "me") so now I have 2 x Redmi 4 Screen covers instead of Redmi Note 4. Guess our phones gonna go another week without protection.

Not cool. :(

Yeah ordering is like higher grade. So many versions and variations of versions. Easy to make mistakes.

You have to use 4x roms
. The mediatek roms won't work with your phone. Might brick it.

That part is a given, reason for my question goes a tad deeper than chipset.
See http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8580&idPhone2=8531&idPhone3=8291

It even gets worse, as there is a seperate rom for Redmi Note 4X (Global), Redmi Note 4X China (3GB+32GB) and Redmi Note 4X China (4GB+64GB) as per: http://en.miui.com/download-321.html

Edit: Nevermind got my answer on XDA https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/how-to/note-4-roms-note-4x-t3591827

hi guys,

Guess this seems like a knowledgeable thread to ask this question, i'm looking at a sub R3k phone with great battery that i can flash stock android on (R.I.P Nexus), i've seen the Xiaomi's around for a while but i've read mixed reviews about flashing ROMs on that aren't fully supported where certain features don't work.
Is this really the case, or are there working 7.x.x ROMs?

Also, if i had to choose, should i go for the note 3/4 or another variant?

Cheers.

From what I have seen Note 3 rom's are mostly working fine.
Note 4 (SD), from what I am reading, some do have bugs or hick-up's but I reckon that problem will be canceled out by the end of this month when the Kernel Source for the Note 4 SD625 will be released.

Note 3 Snapdragon aka Kenzo is the one to get if in doubt. Excellent ROM support.
Official bugfree Lineage.

MIUI vs Lineage performance test :p

Ok so, worth waiting for the Note 4?

Well I bought a Note 4X just to play around with so not really caring about stability. (Using a Mi5 as primary phone)

I flashed MIUI 8.2 Dev last night and will probably play a bit before I try out other ROMs. I have been reading about some of the problems people are getting and it seems to be close to stable but not 100% there yet on other ROMs.

Redmi Note 3 is the phone to go with if you want stable right now sure, but as time move on dev's will be focusing on Note 4's so there is a small jump in future-proofing your investment.

I usually have the best mileage with Ali, but it seems the Note3 is running out of stock. Might make more sense to go with:

Not THAT much more, but with a warranty and 2 day delivery time..

Or, ofcourse, the newer Note 4x as AlphaJohn said - but that I'd get from either Ali or Gearbest - and then you'll have to go into it knowing that development is still underway.
