i used the automatic updates - sorry no links
ive been stalling it since i got vista - i figured i had some spare GB`s left so i just tried it and it worked.

PS - the XP SP3 works without any problems - No BSOD - no hanging - and it evan seems faster (must still run a benchmark to confirm)
I got the first release - the one they released to OEM`s - its more or less exactly the same as the final release.

intersting fact
dont know if you guys already know this - but the adobe updates also still works
I use Adobe acrobat pro & photoshop and i just tried to update it and it works!

this really amazes me cause telkom doesnt allow you to browse int. sites, but you can download from it? Doesnt make sence
Hope there is no telkom reps browsing here - it might be a problem they are not aware of!

No i dont think so - just installed a language pack just to see if it works - it still works
in vista at least - check ur firewall - check if its actually turned on
in XP start -> Run -> Services.msc ->
in Vista start -> all programs -> accesories -> Run -> services.msc

So has anyone confirmed the MD5 from the official Microsoft Windows Update Download? Would like to see if it is the same as the RTM build that has been available since last week.

I don't see any SP3 on the official site to download yet... :confused:
Else I would have been able to give you a MD5 very quickly...

The 'leaked' official links gives me:
Code:
windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu_c81472f7eeea2eca421e116cd4c03e2300ebfde4.exe

Yeah that's the one I have also but want to see if it paid off for those who waited (IE. if the MD5 changed).

That was mentioned here as well. I wonder whether I should download the file linked in that thread or wait until it's officially released (again :p)... :confused:

i downloaded the file from m$ windows update link that someone gave here and its been running fine ever since i installed it last night, more than 24 hours ago... during which i've installed a crapload of games and applications. no problems yet. actually kinda impressed, boot up time is down with 3 seconds and games are definately loading quicker.

Microsoft is only delaying SP3 they wont be changing it, they just need to release a patch for RMS users then they will release SP3 and it will still be the same, I would install it now.

Dude you are downloading from Microsoft US ".com" directly not SA

The akamai servers allow us to access it locally, I don't know how the technology works, somebody should shed some light on this but I have been downloading locally from microsoft since last year, Apple uses Akamai as well and I download locally from them as well (like itunes, quicktime and OSX updates)

Telkom has partnered with Akamai - the server went live in December. IS also has some kind of agreement with Akamai so you can get content from either one.

reliable sources (nuff said). It's also easy to test, for example, try download something or do a dns lookup from any link (most links) on www.nvidia.com - you'll get a local IP address with a nice sub 50ms ping. AFAIK Akamai doesn't publish a full list of their customers (such as Nvidia etc) but only a sample on their website (note the difference between customers and partners....)

I wish the local ISPs would partner with all the CDNs - such as Cachefly... suppose the market is not big enough though
