XP vs Vista vs Win7

People knock Vista but it's actually a very mature and fast OS. Win7 I think will be faster eventually when video drivers are better optimised but there's nothing wrong with vista.

Have to fully aggree. Vista SP2 is much better than win7

I run GTA4 with no problems with Vista SP2 but with win7 it lags so much that most of my games are unplayable.

Although I think Win7 will be a good OS it still needs to be perfected like Vista at the moment!

If I think back to my very first vista install and now with SP2 its so much better one would think its a totally different OS.

Vista good! :)

Personally I prefer 7 and wount easily go back to XP on my home PC. I wount even touch Vista on my home PC cuz its too damn slow.
Been running 7 RTM since it came out on technet and I cannot fault it, no hassle at all.
Games work just fine on 7, oldies like Quake 3 and newer like COD5.

I use Vista SP2 at work with a core 2 and 4GB ram and its still sluggish and not as stable as it should be.

Win ME and Vista will always be in the history books as cr@p.

My lord since the first release of windows 7 i have been in love, i tried going back to vista but just cannot go back to anything else.

So fast, so stable, so beautiful and an amazing tool bar now :D.

Plus XP mode, Cough-up, which toolbar?

I suppose for the high spec systems in terms of processor power gud amount of ram and mid range Gpu Vista would run fine but for the low to mid range system Vista is another story, I would think anything below duel core and 2-4 gigs Vista is fail. I remember using Vista for only one week on my P4 3 Ghz with 1 gig of ram since it became unbearably slow. I live by Windows 7 now, would never go back.

Ok, now I know. Yeah its great. I also love that when you have more than a few windows open and you then move the mouse cursor onto the Folder/Web icon on the toolbar then you see small thumbs of the open pages/directories and by moving the mouse on a thumb it will tempory bring that page to the top and if its the one you need a simple click will leave it on top. Nice if you want to quickly just check someting on the other page if you are busy in a specific document.

Small issue is that sometimes it defaults to just showing the name of the open page or directory in a block and not the thumb. Will still work out whats going on maybe something set in Aero?

The stickies are great. (Must learn to use them more effectively)

Pengiun when i turn aero off i get no thumbs only the name. With aero on it shows the thumbs

Now it works after a reboot but sometimes it does not work then? Then my Aero selection is ticked but greyed out? Time to do a proper reinstall instead of the cheated upgrade?

Maybe just remove aero and then apply it again? Did you not fresh install windows 7? Upgrading for me never ends well.

See if your Desktop Window manager service is running in the background (dwm), if not,

go to:
start,
run,
services.msc

Start the service.
