So, anybody got a Pro? Any other (2011) Xperia phone?

Share your experiences with the rest of us. Personally, I've replaced the Home Launcher with Nemus Launcher, and I use Pansi SMS for messaging - the rest of the phone is pretty standard.

I rooted the phone on .58, but the firmware upgrade to .62 removed that, so I've unlocked my bootloader in order to root it again. There are just too many apps out there that are useful and need root to go without. Besides, this is Android, and it's my phone - not an I phone (sic) :).

I've been too scared to root or even upgrade past 2.3.3
Rooting presents an interesting conundrum since ideally I would have to backup stuff before I root...but in order to backup stuff I need that root. I've been extremely impressed with stock SE though granted it's my first smartphone by the new definition, formerly a Nokia 6710 Navigator user. There's little that I don't like about stock and I've found widgets and apps to take care of all of those things so I'm pretty content.
Once ICS goes official I'll have to look at the very least updating the phone if not tweaking it a bit more than that but until then I'm content.

Xperia Play user. Imported as it was not available in SA for long enough.

Mostly or shall I say only use it for games. Pity Vodacom only had it for 3 months and never marketed it as I know some people that would have liked to get the phone later on.

Posted most of the games on This thread.

As for OS, running rooted stock, just removed most of the pre-installed apps. with ADW EX launcher. Tried the leaked ROM but hurried back as loads of functions did not work. Also the problem that the gamepads dont work 100% on custom ROMs make me stick to stock. You can see the custom layout here.

Can not wait for Official ICS update.

Wow! Had no idea the Play was available for such a short time.
I got to Play on one in December, played Crash Bandicoot on it and thoroughly enjoyed it, very nice phone, also had a go at an Arc S, was great to see how much SE have improved since the X10-debacle, only thing that stopped me getting a Arc S was lack of dual-core and 512mb RAM.

Anyone planning on getting a Xperia S? Looks to be a device worth considering especialy if you coming from a X10 or Arc.

My past 5 phones were sony ericsson and it will always be my first choice! I'm currently using a xperia arc s and have to say it is an awesome phone and probably one of the best looking and stylish smartphones of them all. I'm considering rooting the it but will first wait for the ICS update and decide then -only reason I might root is for all the extra apps and stuff you can get with a rooted phone but other than that I'm happy with its performance and battery life. Only thing is I'm not a big fan of Timescape and installed GO Launcher EX instead.

I played with GO Launcher Ex for a while. Nice, but it took up space with all the extras - I was using pretty much everything GO-related. :) Also, I agree that TimeScape is a bit of a waste if you are anything close to a power user.

I had an interesting experience the other day. Since the reset that was caused by unlocking the bootloader, my battery life AND storage space seem to have increased! Before the reset, I had hassles with space on my system partition, and the battery would barely last through the day. Now I have all apps installed to the system (granted, not as many as before, but still plenty), no hassles. Also, my battery lasts easily into the evening.

Now, I know that apparently the battery increases capacity once it gets used (slightly, anyway), but I'm not sure about the space.

One other thing - where can I get a Class 10 micro SD card? I'm thinking Link2SD may solve my storage issues if I get them again, but the Class 2 I have at the moment is waaay too slow for that.

Did you move your apps to the sd card?

There is a simple command to allow more than the default apps to move, and no root needed. You can follow the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16171876&postcount=6

I know it says for Xperia Play but with my experience of the SE models is that they pretty much use the same OS so you might wanna give it a try.

I had - both Link2SD and later just Apps2Sd (Link2SD slowed it down too much). Now I'm much more selective, and still lots of space.

Thanks - I'll look into the ABD (or is it ADB :erm:) setup, but Xperias have Apps2SD already built into their Application Settings - is this any different?

Not all apps can be moved to the SD card by default.(This is for the Play and I dont know if the same is true for other Xperia devices) But after you run that command applications that normally can not be moved where able to, like Gameloft games and so on.

Widgets could also be moved after it, but did not display when moved, so I had to move any widgets I wanted back to the phone memory.

Definitely looking at getting this... Finally a Sony Ericsson that can stand up to the better droids out there.

Now just the famous question of when will the Xperia S be available in SA...

Hopefully Expansys are not lying and it comes on the 06/03/2012... But I doubt that.

Xperia Ray. Haven't bothered replacing the launcher this time around. With my previous HTC I had Go Launcher etc on it but in my opinion the SE launcher/skin is way better.

So the phone is standard and I love it. It's screen is very good, it's not too big and the battery life is awesome. My two best phones have been SEs so may just stick with them for a while :)

SE Xperia range has the best looking phones of all the smartphones and the Arc S is right there at the top lol. The xperia s isnt quite as good looking as the arc s but it still looks alot beter than any other smartphones(iphone,SGS2 etc.)
