I'm looking at streamlining my home network, adding a NAS (already had a thread about that), media player, and Giga switch.

Has anyone used the Xtreamer media player before?
http://www.xtreamer.net/

AFAIK it uses the same chipset as the Medi8tor, but it is much cheaper (goes for about R1200 inc). Also supports all the standard connection interfaces, including LAN, internal and external HDD.

Anyone had experience with it? Thoughts?

I'm using the Xtreamer in the lounge and connecting to my PC in the other room with ease, it also has a better UI than other players I have used (el cheapo chine divx player and Patriot Box Media Player) but my only gripe is it does not have a music jukebox. It will fail playing some flash videos. Overall impressions: better than most cheap media players out there.

I have one and love it upgrade from using an Xbox as it did not recognise all the formats and this little baby does it all. Just get the new on or add the cooling kit.

Old one overheat, or a lot of fan noise?

Get the Pro! Supports up two 4 tb. Has web capabilities built in.
(and a quiet fan)

Cool, thanks! Will be looking out for one, then.

Got mine there just need to get the cooler kit as it gets a bit noisy
