This month started with me using up my 3GB cap very fast.

So I go and call Telkom and order another 3GB because I can't spend 25+ days without getting e-mail.

I call the guys, order it and away I go.

Yesterday I get home, I get my Telkom bill and on the bill, I see the following:

Your Telephone Line R98.16
DSL Up To 4096kbps Bundle R362.28
Ti-AllAccess Advanced 3GB R209.65
Ti-AllAccess Advanced 3GB R209.65
Ti-AllAccess Advanced 3GB R209.65

Now the interesting part is that there are 3x Ti-AllAccess Advanced 3GB.

So I call 10210 and decide to query this.

The lady answers and I explain the problem and she says the following:

"Sir, I see when you ordered your 3GB account. But when you order a 3GB account, we charge you twice"

WTF!!!!!!!!

Firstly, I was not informed of this, and I can almost understand why because the guy who helped me seemed like he knew what he was doing and he either DIDN'T tell me about this because it simply is too stupid to actually be something Telkom actually does.

I said but it doesn't make sense to charge someone twice for something that they only want to use ONCE.

She says that I was supposed to be told by the person I got my 3GB account through that Telkom charges twice, "It's the way they do things"

When I told her that it doesn't actually make sense... then I said to her: Lady, think about it, it doesn't make sense damn it... she just replied with: "Sir, it's the way we do things." (as a matter of fact, she said exactly this a few times... tape recorder on the other side maybe?)

Then I almost lost it with her because as dumb as she sounds, can't she work out that LOGICALLY, it doesn't make sense to charge someone for something twice if you only want it / use it ONCE!

My office was fairly noisey when I phoned Telkom but once I got into this lady, everyone went dead quiet and I can tell you right now, I'm not done with Telkom yet.

I suggest you all check your bills and make sure everything is correct because you might be getting screwed outta R100+ because of Telkom's incompetence.

isn't it because they charge you a month in advance for the 3G account.

Soz but I had to laugh - its like arguing against a deaf guy :)

If I was applying for a 3GB account for the first time, "maybe" I'd understand the extra charge but this is just another 3GB account which I will cancel at the end of the month, sorta like a prepaid account and I explained this to the guy when I ordered it and he told me ever so nicely to call just before the month ends and cancel the account so yeah.

I wish Telkom would employ people who at least and I mean AT LEAST finished JUNIOR/PRIMARY SCHOOL so that maybe they have the 'slight' ability to THINK for themselves because if they did, they'd make so many people's lives EASIER.

I think this would be contrary to Telkom policy.

Did he tell you about the bit where you have to give telkom 1 month advance notice if you want to cancel an account?

Gru: He told me that I must phone a day before the end of THIS month to cancel the account or it would renew next month.

I explained every so nicely that this was a temporary account till the end of the month.

If they renew it for next month, I'll be on a war path, luckily, I keep all and I mean ALL corrospondance between me and Telkom so when I take the fight to them, they always come up 2nd best :)

You'll still pay for another month then
Even IS require a week's notice and they're more relaxed about it than Telkom

Surv0: Yes... but you know, since I got my ADSL, I've had issues from Telkom, nothing that a good few YELLING sessions can't fix but still, this problem just takes the cake.

I can't wait till Neotel comes, I plan to cancel my Telkom account and jump ship, I can't handle Telkom's incompetence anymore.

Indeed... but to save yourself trouble in the interim, you can just pay telkom for the line rental. Pay someone else for the DSL portion rental and the bandwidth. You dont need to put up with their non-logical business practises if you so wish. Thats what ive done. Luckily i dont have any problems with my DSL so no need to deal with telkom in that sense, but ive prevented any uneccesary ball-aches by using a different private ISP for line rental and Bandwidth.
I wouldnt wait for Neotel.. solve your headaches now, then when neotel comes through, move over, i think thats what most people will be doing. The sooner we can phase Telkom out of being a neccessity the better.

Why new Account

Why did you get yourself a new account, instead of just topping up the old one, or doesn't Telkom do top ups?

Sounds to me like one big communication problem, your lucky day for reaching the Telkom I don't know what I'm doing Helpline.

telkom doesnt do topups.. its not in their best interests...
they get more money by just selling the full accounts...
Why should they give their customers choices like that anyway? not like they actually care about us...

Surv0 & GRU: I just got off the phone with Telkom (10215) and so long I cancel my account on the 30th or 31st of this month, I won't be charged again next month.

Telkom don't do top ups... I think it's because their systems don't cater for that, the high school kid who programmed Telkom's systems didn't think "WE" as consumers would want to do that... haha :)

Hi guys,

Status update!

Telkom just called me now and will be crediting me.
They billed me for 2 months and have corrected it now 'apparently'
