"**** ***, you bloody ******"

She's a racist... you seem to always be defending these people?

Dude, everyone is a racist - there are just different degrees. Everyone is a xenophobe. People are prejudicial and transfer their inadequacies or issues against governments/politicians/policies against people of other ethnic/racial/language/religious/socio-economic groups.
It also occurs AMONG members of the same racial-ethnic-religious-social-language-group too. Ever heard of the expression 'blood is thicker than water' well most people favour their blood relatives. Heck look at football hooligans in SA and Britain, they will attack supporters of opposing teams
yet these people are the same as them. A group of drunken men will
gangrape a woman or beat up a perceived homosexual. In prisons
murderers turn on rapists and child molesters as though it should in
some way vindicate their own evil crimes. People just hate each other,
the French hate the Germans, the Brits hate them both, the Chinese hate the Japanese, the Russians
hate the Poles etc. Heck even young kids bully those who look
different then they are.

Regardless of her day she shouldn't have expressed her frustration in this manner. If it had been a white man pushing in would she have reacted in this manner?!! Probably not, one cannot defend racists... What is so threatening and urgent about being on the escalator 1st? Why react in this fashion when your about to be 2nd on the escalator? It doesn't make sense other than this lady seems to regard herself as royalty with the accompanying right of passage...

Then why do all these idiot drivers overtake each other in rush hour knowing fully well - I hope - that no amount of maneuvrering will get
them more than a few seconds at best overall - get out of bed 5 minutes
earlier....

Damn people standing at the bottom of freaking escalators blocking traffic leaving them.
If it was me I would have tripped as I exited the escalator and would have accidentally knocked the bugger out of my way.

Yea sure, but a grown man blocking the only exit point for a woman, that's okay?

She was probably scared that Mabulu was a criminal or something.

I think she should go public and tell her side of the story, and demand an apology from Mabulu for the blatent way in which he used his male dominance to cause this poor woman so much distress that she lost the plot completely.

Hows that for a viewpoint?

I can see that happening. I can't count the number of times I encountered people gathering at entrances in droves just standing there blocking everyone. It is rude an inconsiderate. I also don't allow people to bump in to me without checking my personals, I hold on to the bugger till I know I haven't been robbed. It gets annoying when your personal space is violated time and again.

Had white men bumped in to her time and again she would have called them idiots, or the most insulting thing she could call a white man. Take in to account the man apologised, but did he do so after the woman reacted or before? Maybe the woman snapped, lost her temper, being white and calling someone a k* does not make you a racist.
I don't think it has anything to do with being there 1st, it is about about having your private space violated, I shower after going to town, nothing to do with race, if 20 people brush up against me I feel need to wash them off. Heck I tell white people to speak quietly and sit further away from me, even if they are girls. I can't as much as move away an inch from a black person without being labelled as a racist.

I don't think we will ever get all the facts, but all the people accusing her of being a racist is VERY quick to draw conclusions about others and to stereotype them based on the known facts. They should look at themselves and try to believe the best of people.

Yeah I think idiot would have been a bit better than K....r, K....r is about as racist a slur as there is, you not going to refer to anyone other than a black person as K.....r, I mean you got to be joking to imply that this lady is not racist??!! If she weren't she would have said "idiot" but the fact that she used the k word suggests nothing short of racism, honestly.

I doubt the guy would have apologized to her after she called him a f......g k....r so lets assume he apologized and was then verbally abused by this extremingly racist lady...

If she was so worried about her personal space what the hell she doing in a major shopping mall in the middle of December? Surely from her previous experiences she would know that malls are pumping this time of year and she is going to perhaps just maybe bump into the odd person here and there???!!!!!

Does she honestly believe that no one should come within 2 metres of her?!!

I agree. When people are nasty they use violence in their words. Especially women who know they not supposed to resort to physical violence have mastered the art of sticking it in very deep with words. If this man was thin she would have called him anorexia or aidsy or anything that she figures might hurt him emotionally because she cannot punch him and get away with it either way.

So it could be argued that this woman was throwing a verbal punch plainly because she is bloody nasty. Saying something that she knows will upset the man.

But this story has another side too if you look real deep.

I don't demand 2m, 10cm only, is that too much to ask? Hell I would be happy with 5cm. Why are whites so worried about respecting others if others can't respect our culture which demands personal space? I don't think it is racist to call someone a k* when you lose your temper and get angry. It is stupid and a person should apologise for it. Using the word k* does not make a person in to a racist.
If you can not understand this concept and see the good in other people and try to live in peace with others regardless of a bad moment in judgement you are more of a racist.

Being called a "white *******" on sight today by a black woman did not make national news, it was in front of tens of people. It is not any less racist than what that woman did. I think the white woman has a better defence since she was provoked. I was being as courteous as possible since it usually helps when dealing with people in authority and I did not provoke the person.

So really, get over the word k*. Boere are insulted daily but we have not allowed the word to become an insult to us.

Mahatama Gandhi, during his stay in South Africa called native black Africans ****** (ethnic slur) and did not like when they were moved near to his fellow Asian Indian inhabitants. In his letter to Dr. Porter (Medical Officer, Johannesburg) Gandhi writes, "Why, of all places in Johannesburg, the Indian location should be chosen for dumping down all kaffirs of the town, passes my comprehension. Of course, under my suggestion, the Town Council must withdraw the Kaffirs from the Location. About this mixing of the Kaffirs with the Indians I must confess I feel most strongly. I think it is very unfair to the Indian population, and it is an undue tax on even the proverbial patience of my countrymen"[2] He considered Asian Indians as superior race than native Africans and opined that classification of Asian Indians along side the natives and so denying Indians possession of arms by the British is incorrect[3] [4]. During one court case, Gandhi commented on the magistrate's decision thanking him for his decision that now only "clean Indians" and "colored" people can have the right to travel on the tram and not the "kaffirs" [5]. Gandhi went onto stimulating his fellow Indians living in South Africa to join British forces against the Zulu Rebellion by writing columns in the newspaper The Indian Opinion [3] [6].

Interesting indeed and Yet they will forever blame the Afrikaner which just inherited the same from the British, Dutch and Germans. It is just that Africans have this emotional inferior complex about themselves. All through history they allowed themselves to be mastered, maybe that was and is their calling if you look at Africa today after so many self, non colonial rule!

Anyway that word is not a swear word and only means that they are non Christians. Does not mater what you call them it will always be linked to racism due to their own complexes. I can list close to 10 descriptive words that means in actual fact something different than racial slur but all of them they denied as groupings.

The complex is so bad that Tut blames the USA for Apartheid (akin or synonymous with racism) just because they cannot as African baggers get their way!

Its only natural that the one who FEELS he's part of an inferiour race will take it as an insult when you call him by his race. I am proud to be called a BOER although I am not really one in the litteral sense. *French blood and all that. As if it really mattered.* I have been called whitey. Well cool I am white so what?

But say black or even brown and you are a racist. Why? Because those people need to win their dignity back and become proud of who they are. They need to know that they are worthy being exactly who they are.

By the way the word Ka'fir comes from Arabia or somewhere in north Africa and it simply means non-believer. The old SA used a slang version of that word. You can call me one if I don't believe what you believe and it will be perfectly in context.

Personally I don't use any words because I don't want to offend anybody of any race colour or creed but it's interesting to see the origins of these things.

I don't think the native African races are inferiour in any way. I think they were living perfectly in harmony with their surroundings and we marched in and stuffed it up.
That being said. It is all history and we are all different people today and we have to make our peace and unite.

We can only move forward with new wisdom. Trying to fix any past is really neurotic. I'ts like trying to prevent an accident that happened last week, It has already happened get over it and move on!!

Equally unacceptable, I don't see the need to differentiate between colour.

The first rational post I have read all evening. Tell it like it IS:)

Since when is personal space part of white culture? Anyhow I will quote your source the wikipedia, ''******,****** or kafir, which once was a blanket term for black southern Africans (see ****** (historical usage in southern Africa)), is now used exclusively as an ethnic or racial slur ,

the word K****r originates from the Islamic term Kafir, which means non-believer. During the ages, this word like all others, got modified until eventually reaching K****r.

it was wrong of her to say what she said, there is simply no excuse.

i've read many of the views and most of them are valid, if not really good. the thing that bothers me though, is that there seems to be more emphasis on black people. if "boere" or "white people" or "coloureds" are insulted in this way, no one seems to give a ****. it's as if the K word has more damage and has higher priority than any other racist slur. this itself is racist.

And no one is denying that but there are consequences for publicly displaying and exercising racist behaviour in civilized society. If this sort of behaviour is not censored then we have Bosnia, Rwanda and Nazi Germany as the result...

I’m amazed at how quickly racists are defended on this site. Consideration is given for the space and rights of the poor white lady and the day she might be having but 15 years ago had the roles been reversed the black man would probably have been arrested for assault, trespassing and being in a white mall without his pass book more than lightly beaten and imprisoned without a fair trial... do me a favour the connotations of the word K....r in the South African context are hideous but unfortunately some white South Africans deem it their right to verbally abuse black people using the K* at every opportunity with impunity and without consequences.

wrong!!!

I can kinda see both sides of this argument, and must admit that I lean more towards the side that this woman was completely in the wrong. She could have sworn at the guy fine, but including the word k****r was just somewhat over the top... and yes in this country it does somewhat relate to hate speech or something along those lines, and her getting off with R150 fine for it is not acceptable.
