Your Second Income!

Wel was thinking of selling in small packets (100g & 200g) thus can charge more. But was thinking like R160/kg

I have no idea what I pay per kg I just go give me X amount.
I tried making biltong, it was okish - my free range butcher sells a kit with the meat and spices, but i gave up trying.
Yeh if you use quality meat and have a good product but I suppose though its the problem of a venue to sell from.

Yeah. My cousin was doing it. He had a huge dryer and slicing machine. And sold on Facebook etc. Don't know why he stopped.

I would probably just start at work and go via demand first.

I am in a location where jalapenos havent really taken off yet and not freely available, the stock that has become available in the past 2 years sold quickly at premiums. So I saw an opportunity to plant some jalapenos and already have 2 contracts signed with two of the larger jarring companies for about 60% of the crop. As its Northern hemisphere the crop has just been transplanted to field about 2 weeks ago, now crossing fingers that nothing goes wrong and the pepper actyally develop nicely. If this works as projected we will dramitically increase farming next year along with the introduction of a new vegetable/fruit per year.

The Japanese go crazy for these...besides the used panties and other wacky stuff, they have banana vending machines...don't think that would take off here:erm:

Oh no. Why did this thread hit a wall? Are you guys not interested in a second income anymore?

Let me tell you my experience so far.

Took 50k and went to Thailand. Did an investigation and bought some stock. Came back and sold that stock. Went Back. Bought some more stock. Sold it all again. Just came back from my 3 rd trip with my summer stock. Started at 1 market. Now I do 18 market days a month and have two people that help to cover all the markets. What use to be an extra R5000 a month is now an extra 36K per month.
As an extra I do festivals also and just came back from Aardklop at Potchefstroom. It was great! I'm the only person that can say I went on a "holiday" and came back with more money than what I spend.

I didn't listen to other people. I kept my mind open and did not let stumbling blocks prevent me from moving forward. And now on top of everything, I am ready to open other business that are spinoff's from my original business.

Guys please, investigate your idea. Don't let it die. Write it down. Investigate everything that you have written down. Don't listen to the those that are negative. Move forward and good luck.

Maybe you can explain how to identify a gap in any type of market?

I'm not so sure about identifying gaps but I am sure there are a lot. The problem is that most people identify a gap, but never move forward to see if it is possible to fill that gap. Another thing that I know today is that your day job is throttling your creativity. I'm not saying give up your day job. I am saying use your spare time and investigate your dream/idea.

I had an idea and saw a gap in the market. I implemented the idea right up to the last leg and then I dropped it. Mostly because other people told me it won't work. Today as I am sitting here I am sure it could have worked and I will always, always regret not having taken it all the way.

Interesting, Thanks.

Taxation and a second income is an interesting concept. How many are declaring their second incomes?

I rent out my old apartment for $2500/m - after managment fees, levies and taxes, it works out to about ~$1500 income. We are considering moving on from our current apartment which we could probably rent out for $5000 (I guess ~$3000 net). It may and sense to just continue doing this, although I do have fears of the "nightmare tenant" one day. Apart from the income, the properties have appreciated by 30-40% in the last 6 years (which isn't bad since this is in dollars).

Congrats!

I want to launch an Uber type app for men to find escorts to hook up with, and then provide a transparency feedback/review service to either recommend the girls or to avoid them if they are dodgy. Also a warning system for these women to blacklist dodgy clients. I'll charge a subscription to both users and providers. Any developers want to work on this with me, send me a PM?

Funny enough I had the same idea about a year ago me and a few *drunk humans brainstorming

Bottom line we could not determine if it's legal or not?

On the tuition bit.

IB]I found it rather unethical though, he was tutoring the same kids he was supposed to be teaching in school. I get that certain pupils may need extra lessons, but not on the scale this guy was doing![/B]

Edit to add, was not just kids in his high school, but tons of kids from other schools and grades.

But ya, if you're good in maths & science. Big $'s in tutoring!

What? So he started a business helping where there is a serious need and you say it's unethical? You do know that teachers have to stay to the curriculum provided or else....... The way it's structured is a travesty at best therefore our poor national results. Privately he can train maths anyway he wants so he can teach each kid individually if he please.

I have a friend doing just that, tutoring of maths as income supplement .

i find it unethical because.. He was tutoring the very same syllabus to the very same students that he was teaching in school. I get that classrooms are overcrowded and hard to give individual attention but seems many schools agree and have clauses in contracts prohibiting teachers from tutoring students that they teach in school.
