Your traffic pet peeves?

I was especially bad. Bought my first car at 17 and wrote it off 3 months later. Still 17 =/. I could drive perfectly, just had a touch of a drinking problem. Luckily never hurt anyone else in one of the 5 cars I wrote off but it was a hard lesson to learn. I dont drink as much these days and definitely dont drive if I am not confident I can do so safely.

*******s that drive too far on the right of the road so that I cannot pass on my bike. and ppl who dont check their mirrors before changing lanes.

Is it legal for a bike to overtake in traffic between two lanes flowing in the same direction? Thereby overtaking the traffic in the left lane, and undertaking the traffic in the right lane.
I would think not due to how dangerous it can be for a bike if a car changes lane?

If anyone has a road bible on them to quote from, that would also be useful.

As far as I know Lane splitting is legal here. It wasn't in Germany. I got yelled at by an uptight german traffis.

Those Germans are very sensible it seems. :D

My pet peeve, ppl who don't let you in from the Century City on ramp to join the N1. The traffic is crawling and you still won't let me in? Are you stupid, will the length of my car mean you get to work later? That one is for you Opel Astra driver in the poo brown-green coloured car, I saw you looking at me frowning like I invaded your personal space...I even indicated and thanked you...can I beat you with a stick with razor blades on it?

I know of at least 2 people drive green turd coloured Opel Astras in CPT, does the car invoke rage of some sort?

The people who drive slooooow and then skips a orange/red light, leaving you there to wait.
The thing that annoys me most though, is when people wait at parking lots for shoppers to finish putting away their stuff in their car, so that they can have the shopper's spot because they're too lazy to drive up to a different level...during peak hours...right at the entrance...blocking EVERYONE from entering the lot, and thus causing a massive jam in the street as well.

Waiting in an intersection to turning right and then all the morons still drive even though its already dark red. Then I'm still stuck in the middle of the robot while the other direction already has green.

Oh, and first year students in parking lot reversing @ 40km/h without looking where they are going.

- Constant breaking when there's no need to.

Constant braking too.

My pet peeves:
- People using foglights when there's no fog. (Illegal)
- People using only parklights when their car is moving. (Illegal).
- People who stop 20m behind the next car at an intersection, then spend the next couple of minutes edging forward. Drive up to where you want to be and stop, dammit!
- Tailgaters. (Windscreen washers work well on these).

People driving at 80km/h (and sometimes even slower) in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway.

You mean the foglights in the rear? when those are on that is annoying. I call the front ones, below the headlights, utility lights. When can you have those on?

Parking lights, are they not called side lights, or running lights. what is their purpose? just for parking? Don't people come up to you and shout, "you've left your lights on"? Don't they drain your battery if you park overnight on the street? I've love to leave my lights on at night, but worried I cant start my car in the morning.

Ye my fogs are on in the rear, the light on the left? Always on, I like it. On certain cars they mean sport mode lol i think...:p

It makes a beeep noise if you dont switch it off.

I agree 100% with all of the above. Driving with foglights is my WORST pet peev. It is not just illegal, its plain stupid and also very dangerious at night. But everyone things its "cool". I wish the traffic department would wake up and arrest them all. Its supposed to be a R300 fine for driving with fog lights on. I could make R200 000k an hour at the Rivionia turn off on a friday night.

Some of my other pet peeves are the following (there are many more though. I hate SA drivers):

- People who fly past at a split on the highway, to try dive into the front of the queue. F U.. I WILL NOT let you in
- People who dive infront of trucks at a split.. They obviously have never driven a truck or understand the basic laws of momentum.
- People who stop right on your bumper. The law states one should be able to see both back tires of the car in front of you.
- People who think stops signs in quiet area's are only to be used when they feel the need and just use them as yields.
- People who stop right next to the side of the road.. right under a "no stopping sign"
- People driving in the yellow lane because they are late.. Dont make your waking up late my emergency.

- When at a 4 way, and your turning right across traffic. The idiots on the otherside who slip in via the feedway when its not thier turn, to end up driving 20km/h in front of you.. If they were in such a hurry to push in, why dont they drive like they are in a hurry.

- People who overtake a truck, and then dont move over because of the other truck 500m away in the left hand lane. Just because the car in front is going the same speed, doesn't mean you have to make it worse. Its called an overtaking lane for a reason

- The same people who then over take the truck and then refuse to move over at all because they are driving 115km/h.. again its the overtaking lane.. NOT the "fast" lane

- Oh and in Durban.. the fact that everyone blocks up an entire road at a traffic light so when it changes, nobody form the other sides can get across.

You mean you leave the fog light at the rear on all the time, or the ones at the front? Leaving the rear one on all the time is painful if you're looking at it.

And plain stupid, dangerious and illegal. Most people dont realise that the back light is actually less blinding than the front (You can check the globe wattage if you dont believe me). Its just because it looks funny with a white light coming from the back that they think its worse.

They both go on, is there a way to only put the front or rear fog lights on?

Its mostly German cars that have these am I right?

Another question to X5 drivers, they have 2 fog lights in the rear, its either the left or both on, how do you activate both fogs at the rear?

The front 'fog' lights never bother me, it's the big red one at the back that irritates!

Clean your windscreens!:)

That fact that its illegal should though.. It really gets to me that people complain about others breaking the law (regardless of how petty), yet think they are cool to drive with fog lights on and that the traffic department doesn't know what they are doing. Its illegal ALL over the world.

Fought this to death already on another forum, and pretty much just learnt that certain idiots will do it regardless. You can see the images of how it works if your interested at http://www.fordstownerssa.co.za/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5180&hilit=foglights
