Cars I've been in have front only, or front and back.

My car only has 1.. and its pretty clean at all times! :D

Go to any astronomy meeting and people will teach you how red lights dont dilate your pupils at night. But white lights do.. Do the math...

If it was/is illegal all over the world, why do the manufacturers put them in the cars, I use it and I know what they are, the majority of people dont know its illegal.

Not knowing is an not excuse.

LOL.. and why do they put them in cars.. because they are FOG LIGHTS!!!! used in FOG.. LOL Feel free to continue to make this personal now though You aint the only one to do it and many more get defensive when shown as well.. I'm more than used to it by now
 
JK8 switch your Golf V GTi fog lights off when there's no fog :)

I hate people who drive at 40kph in a 60kph zone in peak traffic. Move it damn it!

I've just been educated! My perception was that when I have had the front fogs on at night, I get a better view of road markings and where the kerb is.
But the whole argument in your link proves more foreground light, as produced by fogs, is not a good idea. And the feeling of increased security by turning more lights on is v.true . Howver, not very useful for driving, and the fact that foreground light reduces your night vision thus decreasing how far you can see into the darkness is scary.

Very interesting indeed.

Alot of people dont know, mainly woman I think:p
How much fog do we get in SA? Very close to NEVER!!!:)

My car also has all round air bags. I hope to NEVER use them either. But they are installed as a safety feature, just in case! :D


Thought of another one:

- Trucks overtaking during peak hours when there are signs all down the road stating that they are only allowed in the left lane.

My biggest peeve is drivers who use their left indicator to enter a traffic circle - but then again I've seen someone indicate right and drive around a circle the wrong way.... :)

So fogs are safety features, why are they illegal then?
 
:sigh: They are only illegal to use when there is no fog. If your using them when there is no fog. It is no longer a safety feature but a driving hazard.

The article above I mentioned clearly explains why they are considered Illegal.. as to the law.. here it all is if you want.

2. the fog lamp or lamps at the rear can only be brought into operation when any fog lamp at the front or any head lamp of such vehicle is brought into operation.
 
Ok so im still guilty because I have after market foglights.
And NO I didnt measure the dip that it needs.

But are the rest of the people who drive cars with fogs from the manufacturer? Im sure they measured correctly...

So apart from me and a few others, I think its perfectly legal to drive with your fogs on:)

That specifies the operation of the foglights; it's obviously to be read in conjuction with the rest of section 163. In other words, they must be adjusted to be dipped beam, rear foglamps can only be on when fron ones are on, and they may only be used in certain conditions (like fog).
 
Manufactures have to conform to the specs or the cars wont be allowed on the roads legally and therefore not imported.

No point in trying to split hairs by trying to ignore the whole law and only follow certain parts you think pertain to you and get away with it.

The law is there in plain black and white (or blue and red after our quotes). You can try pretend its legal for as long as you want, your call. Just remember it next time people complain about crime in SA.

It only looks "cool" until you kill yourself because of it.. Or worse.. somebody else

Doesn't matter how well adjusted they are. 163.6 *still* says they're only to be used in snow, fog, mist, dust or smoke (and doesn't include rain).

Ok but as a driver, it doesnt affect me, never has one bit, never even thought about it... and TBH I dont think alot of people are affected by it or if there was ever an incident where some said, "it was the driver infront of me his little left foglight blinded me..." ?
