Your traffic pet peeves?

Thats because they usually die.. Jokes aside. I do know somebody who was killed due to something like this and the passanger was the only surviving witness to what happened from both cars. You will hate me now though, as it never used to affect me either until I realised how bad it was and started taking notice. Now it drives me insane.

I actually cr@pped out a BMW driver one night at a traffic light and told him it was illegal. He pulled me over 3 blocks later and asked me to explain myself. I did and even gave him my number if he wanted to phone me and to send him the link I posted above. He phoned me a week later and told me it now drives him mad seeing all the others doing it and apologised. Ignorance however is NO excuse. How we all get our drivers licenses I sometimes dont know (Myself included as I found out things like this after 5 years of driving)

The whole thing andytl5 mentioned about the perception of false lighting should at least make you think twice with regards to your own safety at least, regardless of others on the road.

Most important law of all on the road as far as I am concerned.. Be considerate to your fellow road users.

What annoys me:

1) Already mentioned I think, people you slow down way below the speed limit for a permanent speed camera..

2) Dummies who slow down where two roads merge... I don't mean where two lanes merge into one, just where two roads join without losing any lanes.. classic example in PE is Cape Road joining Kragga Kamma no lanes are lost but everybody slows down causing those further back to slow even more and eventually it grinds to a near stand still at times.. :rolleyes:

3) People who don't seem to realise that a "dead" robot (or one with a flashing red light) is equal to a four way stop and just carry on as if it's green for them.. :mad:

And of course the obvious, constant breakers, tail drivers... etc..


Fortunately for me, I'm hardly ever caught in peak traffic hours (work from home mostly or else at varying times) and of the few times I am caught half of them I'm on my bike... :D

Some cars have foglights that are brighter than their normal headlights. You might not be bothered, but many people are, and many people are affected even though they don't realise it, thanks to the adjustment period after looking at bright lights, or the chance of missing other, dimmer, things.

And foglights aren't even of any use in clear conditions. If you're doing 60kph, by the time something is in the area of light shed by the foglights, it's too late to even react to be able to take evasive action.
 
Trucks that are not fast enough to do more than 30 or 40 on a freeway annoy me terribly. They inevitably screw up all the traffic behind them.

People who don't adapt to driving conditions. e.g. someone with EC plates taking a leisurely cruise in GP rush hour traffic (@40km/h).
 
People who keep driving approximately 1.34cm behind me on the highway in the left-hand lane when I drive 120km/h :mad:
 
couple of peeves

1. Not moving over to let a motor cyclist get through in heavy traffic, I mean jeez, pull to the left/right by .5 of a meter and led the dude/dudet through FFS (I don't ride bikes any more BTW)

2. Here in CT city bowl, you have some tight streets with cars parked on shoulders/sides. When you "give way" to another vehicle to get through, they drive through and do not thank you!@#$ WTF, common courtesy, raise a hand and acknowledge I stopped for you you Pr1ck!@#$ Usually I raise my hand in acknowledgement to these ID10ts with a single finger raised. God that gets me.

3. Tail gaiters... I mean really, I can only do x km/h due to traffic conditions. What should I do?? disappear for you??? I like to have a "safety" gap in front of me because its Africa FFS. You decide that if you hitch yourself to my tow bar you will get there quicker???? My favourite is to "brake test" these A holes without actually braking. (touch brake pedal so brake lights light up. Gives them a bit of a fright. Love the look in the rear view mirror when I do this he he.

4. Not really traffic related but... the damn walking parking meters in CT CBD. Park your car and they are on you boy, give me X for this time. Gets me going.

Other than that, Gauteng traffic as a whole (glad I left, sorry guys), Trucks (elephant) races up hills with a 1% speed difference, slooooooow drivers, CT in summer....


Ooh, I better stop, getting a bit revved here.

Just let us all be considerate, we all are going somewhere and so lets help out our fellow SA road users
