Good Day,

Any ideas on which software we could utilize on a server to stream YouTube live events over LAN to multiple users to save bandwidth. In other words to use one stream and distribute to multiple users via HTTP etc.

Thnx

You mean there is a LAN with multiple users with a single internet connection.. these users regularly watch the same YouTube live event and in order to not saturate the internet connection, you are looking for some sort of software that would allow for a single YouTube connection to be distributed to all the users over the LAN..?

Plex?

<edit>
My bad. Too simple.

The best approach is to download the vid, then upload it to a Telegram group shared by all participants then they can mirrorcast it to their respective media displays.

Problem *solved*

In the most ridiculous way possible

Yeah, but then the live event is not live anymore. All I can think of is multiple servers running TightVNC where the clients connect to the correct server for that live stream

I did use VLC once before but it was a while back and VLC has been updated a few times. This might point you in the right direction.

Doubt its still possible. If you are an ISP or have significant traffic they will work with you to set up a cache on your network or do a peering agreement. But the days of using squid or nginx proxies for youtube are long gone.

Doubtful caching proxies would work here.. last I checked, YouTube adds headers to their streams telling caches they are not allowed to cache the content..

Isn't there a way to stream it on one PC, then use a screen capture software and broadcast over the LAN with something like VLC?

OBS on the one PC to ingest the screen recording and output a stream that the users can connect to over VLC..

Just tried it using VLC and it seems to work. Give me a minute to confirm and I'll give you the steps.

Dammit it broadcasts local files fine but doesn't seem to broadcast Youtube ones.

Made progress with OBS..

These settings allow you to create a RTP stream that can be played via VLC.. add desktop recording as a source in OBS, use the settings in the picture and then hit the start recording button..

Used 224.0.0.1 due to it being multicast, so any computer on the network can access the stream.. audio didn't appear to work and I wasn't able to play the stream over my network.. that is more likely due to firewalls on my network though and I don't have time nor want to go fidget with my firewalls now..

Op what is your goal, I know what you trying to do but why?
Group of nerds living together that watch the same live streams thought it would be convenient to just stream it on one device and have that device rebroadcast it across the LAN?
