I can't remember which one of your group I sent it to, but are you using that disclaimer I PMed?
Not me, but since I need to get it anyway, and Zeek will be MIA for a while, mind PMing it to me to use for the interim?
oh well thats great news, when will it be online again?
That depends on how soon the domain name propagates through the DNS servers. We've been waiting just over a week already, so hopefully its within the next few days.

Cant you just post the IP address here so we can use that instead?

Its a shared IP server, and the 'preview' link accessible only allows pure html, no PHP code. So all that you can currently see on it is the banner stating the site is offline, and that we should blame NomNom.
Which is the reason why I haven't bothered posting such a link so far.

I'm not sure how these things work, but if one were to enter the IP and domain in the hosts file, won't that work? Doesn't the hosts file act as a local DNS server?

Only if this was a dedicated ip server. Currently the site is hosted on a shared IP server (where several sites sit on the same ip, and access to a specific is given to a user depending on which domain name he entered). So unfortunately that will not work.

Since I'm a bit pissed at za.net for taking so long, I've just started advancing one of my plans that was originally only scheduled to only happen in 3 months time. Watch this space. Should have something ready within 48hrs (hopefully within 8hrs).

Scratch my previous response, did some research, some testing, and I just managed to access the site :D
Edit your hosts files to look like this, and it should work.
Code:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#	127.0.0.1 localhost
#	::1             localhost
196.38.40.110 zee.za.net
196.38.40.110 www.zee.za.net

I suppose I'll just use the new server as a test server for the mean time

It's still not perfect if you edit your hosts file.
zee.za.net opened the message about the invisible script ninjas and how it was all NomNom's fault:D

www.zee.za.net worked and I was able to login but the shoutbox still thought I was a guest:confused:

Anyway, it's good to be back and my ratio is still the same!!!:)

I've been busy fiddling with the site, doing some of the quicker changes. Everything should be running again by now.
I've also removed the script ninjas placeholder earlier, so that's probably when it suddenly worked for you on the second try.
The shoutbox should work (it does on my side). Try refreshing (been fiddling in that region as well).

Because of the wait involved with the domain name (no idea when ZA NiC are going to get it done) I'm thinking of stopping the torrent tracker. There is now Gower (haven't tried it, but it's local and open)

I'm thinking of throwing together an online store now. So if one day you go onto zee and see a shop, be sure to buy something! Will be selling mostly software, which I know you can get illegally, but antivirus is always a mission having to change serial all the time, so I'm going to mostly offer antivirus at a price that noone in SA can compete with.

Sorry bout the bad news guys, it was a fun run, unfortunately hosts and name servers got the better of us.
