Try explaining to an ISP the fact that .torrent files are not pirated software....SIGH...

Surely that's a very lame argument when you host torrents for pirated software? You can't deny the intention of the site or at least of those torrents, it's a useless technicality if you ask me.

I think it is very rude and unprofessional from WA to just go and delete your entire website. They should have at least given you notice, even if it was just a few hours. If they are so much against piracy, they should stop their trials with immediate effect too. What do they think most users use their local and newly created news server for. Web Africa just lost lots of points in my book.

Well, they did not delete the entire website... yet. All the files are on there (FTP works perfectly), its just the apache server is refusing access to those files for browsing.

PS. I just managed to obtain the DB via other means. Now just need Polemus to come online and we can restore the site. :D

O, OK, then they (WA) not being that bad. Thought they deleted everything, because the first time I noticed something was wrong, I were getting "page not found" errors. Hope you get the site up soon and good luck.

all torrents are is links! is google evil becuse its give you links to illegal websites? or even child pron?
It's the biggist load of BS that a simple website that provieds LINKS get flak, If I tell you where you can get a gun? or drugs? is that illegal?

Anyway what is ISPA? Internet Service Prividers Assosation?

Where is it going to be hosted now?
For this month while we organize better hosting, polemus revealed that he had been hiding a server from us. So we are gonna shift as soon as he gets online in irc.

should I go on 4chan and organise a DDOS attack :D
I'm sorry, I only go into the (slightly more) civilized sections of 4chan, such as /tg/. I am not taking a single step into the lake of piss that is /b/

LOL I've only been to /B/ once, I'm not keen on the pron, I actaly made a thread asking how I could black it....

Anyway did they happen to delete the censer? :D

Torrents are like NZB's, arent they? well not the P2P thing but getting illegal and pirated stuff. Then how come those sites dont get taken down as well? just curious.

Are you saying that actually downloading the stuff would be illegal but then simply hosting a site which allows people to do exactly that is not illegal? I don't get that.

And yes, I think if you made a website that listed where you can buy drugs in Cape Town very specifically, like a torrent, it would be illegal. The local weed forums all block out any posts on where you can buy drugs for legal reasons, so exactly that.

In any case get the site back up asap! I have a few things queued that got stuck, all illegal of course.

Sounds like a tricky grey area to me:confused:

The thing is that tons of torrents are completely legal. The fact that WA just suspended us is really bad business practice. We could have at least been notified and given an oppertunity to get our files and database off their server. The best way to deal with it would have been to ask us to take down specific torrents that the ISPA had a problem with. If they had bothered to read our disclaimer they would have noticed that we asked users not to upload illegal software and we had no control over it if they did...

But as I learnt when I first joined WA and all the issues I had, they are an unorganized bunch of know-nothings. Need proof of that statement? Yesterday, while I was on the phone trying to find out why my account had been suspended the man on the other end made me wait 2 minutes while he tried to contact an engineer, then I had to wait another 5minutes while he ran to the building next door to find an engineer. I finally got through to an engineer, who was atleast competent, he promised he'd get someone to phone me about getting my files off their server before 6PM...Still haven't heard of them...

I had badmouthing places because I understand that everyone makes mistakes, but every time I've had to contact them it's been a nightmare.

Anyway, enough of that. We'll be live soon. As soon as Polemus sets our server up for us. Hopefully next month, I'll have something running that the ISPA can't touch with a stick, has something to do with server location and beautiful loopholes.

Did you guys get some kind of notice from ISPA. I think you should challenge it a la TPB. AFAIK, torrents basically contain hashes that could be made by an infinite number of files. To be more pragmatic:p, I think you should remove any offending torrents and distribute them in a different way. This would make ISPA crazy- they would have to send you a notice for each individual torrent they want removed

Yes exactly what Im saying, its not illegal, I thought does not imply intention, for example zee,za had alot of stuff hashed that was compleatly free and legal, the ISPA has actaly no grounds to do anything, its like a phone book for all you know, your phonebook could contain the numbers of some drug lords or arms dealers, even a brothel? Do the police come and shut down the place that prints phone books becuse they give you a number, (noting the fact that the phonebook provider is ignorent and is just providing a service, like a torrent tracker). And now wouldn't the whole argument against torrent tracker also make search engines illegal, like good, yahoo, Bing??

LOL so you being a hypocrit now? :)
