Zimbabweans are voting in the most crucial election since their independence from Britain in 1980 with the country's veteran leader Robert Mugabe facing the biggest challenge to his 28-year-long grip on power.

Some voters slept at polling stations while others began queuing before dawn. The polls opened just after 7 o’clock and are scheduled to close at seven this evening.

A spokesperson for the Independent Zimbabwe Support Network says first indications show the turnout for today’s polls is high.

There are claims though that some people are being turned away because of confusion over new ward boundaries.

President Mugabe cast his vote in Harare this morning and rejected all accusations of rigging. He says he rates his prospects at victory as very good.

However, Harare is the opposition’s stronghold and many are desperate for change.
Sincerely hope Zim is going to see the back of Bob.. for ours and their sakes..

I doubt they will... it would be fantastic if we did see him go, but I doubt we will.

I hope the elections are fair and that the next President can turn that beautiful country into a profitable stable country which will help the Southern Africa region.

Rigged for sure, no doubt.

The biggest joke will be when our government declares the elections "free and fair".

Perhaps that will give some here an insight into our governments mindset.

With the police there to "help" people to cast their vote, of course it will be fair!

I reckon it's a paper exercise, Rob had his ballots printed and completed long time ago, all they have to do now is not screw things up and change the ballot boxes around. Of course it will be free and fair because the hated colonialists are not present.

If Bobbyboi loses, it will be a huge mess, there will be much bloodshed in that country, that much I am pretty certain of.

If he wins there will be much bloodshed, but not through bullets and fighting, but just through many hundreds of thousands dying from starvation.

In terms of human life, this election is a lose-lose... but its a lose-lose-loseforalongtime if Bobbyboi wins, if the MDC or that other oke win then its a lose-lose-eventuallymaybewin.

I hope Ian Smith gets his vote in - there should be a lot of dead people voting, must be very hard on them

Rigged.

That's the opinion of someone I was chatting to last night who was in Zim last week.

She was supporting Makoni for prez and MDC in all other positions. But she figured it really wouldn't make a difference, because it is rigged already.

Here's a thought, even if Bob died, there could be enough of a swing vote with the dead to vote him in - unless another party forms, The Zim Dead and Death party

The trouble is not entirely in Mugabe, but the people in office around Mugabe as well. Until those people also get voted out, it will be very hard to turn the direction of that sinking tanker.

Almost like they need to dissolve government entirely... and than start fresh at this point.

Prepare for a massive influx of Zim's into SA very soon
