Cell C mobile broadband launch postponed

I predict the 1st September, perfect Spring day launch.

So I shouldnt cancel my Telkom ADSL 384 for Cell C yet?

I'm paying +-R280 for line rental plus R95 for 5GB Axxess. Total = +- R375 per month
Cell C's 5GB 21.6 MBps package will cost R167 per month.

The question is what will the final QOS be and how much 21mb coverage is there even rite now.
I am still annoyed by their 4G adverts, did their Research department even bother researching what a 4G network is before they started printing a load of bull****

Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? One has to wonder what the congestion on their towers is going to be like when people move over to this service.

If it takes off like they are hoping, how will they cope? I will hang back a little and let someone else experiment before I commit to a year's CellC...

I think that this article is a bit premature. The 20th August cam about through a leaked document, which was not officially supported by Cell C. The CEO (head honcho) said August and August is not yet over. So if there is no announcement by 1 September, then this article is valid. Let's give them a bit of credit, and if they don't come through, we can hang them at high noon on Spring Day!!!

Also the speedtests shown on another thread are not "real". That is without anyone else using the services. Once we have 10 000 on the system, I'd like to see that work. You can race in a GP on your own (the only car) and come out first, but wait until you have other racers ... see what happens then.

Just my 2 cents worth ...

Well 5 gigs won't last long at 21 MBps.... Unless you aren't really planning on downloading, anyone know what the "TopUp" prices will be?

Also quite interested in the topup prices,
Dont like being locked in contracts.

Guys just keep in mind how much of a fool you will feel if you drop 2 grand on a 12 month, 5GB contract, then realise your local Cell Copyright tower is EDGE only. My advice is wait and see or find out what areas support the higher speeds.

Do not be fooled by this 21Mbps hype. Radio planners will tell you that real world speeds are far far less than this, and it is also a shared access medium.

Cell Copyright bleating about 21Mbps is like Telkom claiming ADSL is 40Mbps, when they are actually talking about the total bandwidth available to all subscribers using the service on a single DSLAM. Each customer is certainly NOT getting their own dedicated 21Mbps air interface.

I also don't see how Cell Copyright has suddenly installed high speed backhaul on all their towers to support this higher speed when all the other operators are still struggling with this.

Bottom line - buyer beware. If it works in your area - great stuff. Please remember, you are dealing with people who have lied and misled the public for weeks now and made goofs like that "4G" nonsense.

Hmmm am I the only one that read it correctly...

For R1,999 you will get a modem capable of speeds of up to 21.6Mbps and 5GB of data every month for a period of 12 months

Definitely a rip off.
