There are signs that Google's Chrome OS will be arriving soon

I actually think that Google should switch gears here and develop an Android OS for Computers and Netbooks that is low on resources and can run all the apps in the Android App store.

Forget about Chrome OS... it sounds about as exciting as a soggy sandwich.
 
long time coming!!! and it won't be 'lightweight'. like Android it will be received with scepticism at first but I would expect Google to be anticipating an overhaul of MS in the near future.




Use PCLinuxOS, the delicious distro.
 
:D Excellent. I will be getting a new laptop solely for Google Chrome OS. Can't wait to try it out. If it is anything like Chrome(which has now become my main browser) in terms of speed and performance I will make it my main OS along with Mac and Linux!
 
oooooowweeeee! with a *nix core it will blow the competition right out of the water. for those eager you can boot it in VirtualBox (the HaXe compile) to play around.

agree and I just happen to say to a colleague of mine, that Google is yet to make a crap application :D

Chrome OS sounds like chrome browser plus gmail plus google docs... I already have that.

Bah! Instead of concentrating on making Android more "big device" friendly, they have to go release an other OS. Fail. I have no doubt that it will be good, but I reckon they are shooting themselves in the foot with this.

I'm perplexed as to why Google felt the need to create another Linux OS and using Ubuntu devs to get the job done. Why not just load Ubuntu on the netbook/notebook/desktop and you've got everything you need at your fingertips? Doesn't make sense.

Google simply wants to have FULL control of everything. Remember how they supported FireFox at the beginning before leaving them in the dust and releasing Chrome? That is how Google goes. Brilliant business strategy really...conquering whatever field they want.

And what of the iPad which continues to sell despite being (honestly) an overpriced, underpowered touch screen for browsing the net. Obviously there are people who want something to do exactly what you've explained. I doubt that "techies" will be in that market. But I'm certain that we've all got family members that could benefit from a internet device that is simple to use and won't require large amounts of our time to administrate.

You hit the nail on the head. Google like any company has seen a market they could exploit. If they price it right, it will be a huge success. Perhaps the profit isn't the issue here, as you have rightfully pointed out.

Details how Chrome will implement native development. So that it could traditional desktop applications (in theory) could be developed for Chrome OS. Of course to see this in execution will be different.

Once it can run DOOM then I will be impressed :D
