Unable to Connect to news.mweb.co.za

For the last few days I have been unable to connect to the Mweb news servers. I have tried using telnet and get the following error: Connecting To news.mweb.co.za...Could not open connection to the host, on port 119: Connect failed

However, I can connect via telnet to other free news servers (news.readfreenews.net) on port 119.
I called Mweb earlier and they say they don't block any ports... hmmm

Any ideas?
 
The news servers only have a few slots available, and if they're all taken then you won't be able to connect.
The same applies to the SAIX, IS & WebAfrica news servers.

There are a bunch of other news server addresses that you can try:
cpt-news.mweb.co.za
jhb-news.mweb.co.za
news01.mweb.co.za
news02.mweb.co.za
news03.mweb.co.za
news04.mweb.co.za
news05.mweb.co.za
news06.mweb.co.za

But I think only the cpt-news & jhb-news ones work.

Had the exact same problem, using the cpt one worked for me too.
 
I find it quite funny that you guys are using the Cape Town one from PTA , and I'm using the Jhb one from Cape Town :)
 
Mweb does not connect for me on any of those servers. It's a disgrace.

OH my word PADA! That freenews server is working, not only that its, ....wait for it ...., downloading at 1285 KB/s. Shame on you Mweb. (That is if it can find the article)

You the man, any other free news servers out there?

working on my side on my bros Mweb account, speeds are not fantastic though
