EASSy exceeds bandwidth sale forecasts

MTN and Telkom use em i think - well they own capacity on the cable.

international bandwidth is no longer the problem, our infrastructure is... we need more people connected for less money...

According to the WOICC the international bandwidth costs have fallen by more than 50 per cent over the past 16 months, mainly due to the development and launch of EASSy.

Sheeh. Talk about conceited.

We all know it was SEACOM that brought prices down. At the time when the SEACOM project was getting underway, it didn't even look like EASSy would happen, with all the political turmoil and in-fighting. IIRC, EASSy was almost scrapped.

Also, EASSy only landed a few months back, yet they take credit for price drops over the last 16 months.

Sounds like an arrogant statement that only Telkom would make.

^ agree they talking crap. Worse is none of the Seacom-style price drops have reached the consumer yet, EASSy isn't as open as Seacom so methinks they keeping all profits for themselves.

+1. MyBB really needs to comment on press releases instead of just publishing it as articles.

/hopes AfriHost will buy some capacity for Seacom's "rainy days" :p

No figures given.

The WIOCC (West Indian Ocean Cable Company) today announced that capacity sales on EASSy (East African Submarine System) have outstripped initial forecasts since the system went live in July 2010.

How much has been sold? What were the initial forecasts?

Until they actually give us some facts to chew on this is all just flowery PR BS.

The last 16 months means SINCE Seacom launched. Do you REALLY think prices for international capacity would be where they are now without EASSy happening? Sure, Seacom launched with their prices lower than satellite. But why would they have continued to fall without the imminent arrival of a competitor?

They have fallen?

I am not a believer, show me some proof. Pricing seems the same since they launched.
